We no longer have a local greengrocer. Or butcher. There were both of those & more, including an electrical shop at one time but the mall put paid to them all. There was also years ago, an excellent opshop & secondhand bookshop both sorely missed.
Perhaps Nicola Willis might address the high food prices instead...but I won't hold my breath.
Lilith anybody who believes Nicola Willis is serious should take a look what happened seven days before her announcement - Duncan Webb objected to a new WW supermarket being fast tracked and guess who ranted and raved about Labour being so shortsighted stopping it being built in a hurry Nicola Willis herself - her hypocrisy is worse than the last lot - she wants to break the duopoly one day but supports fast tracking an additional duopoly owned supermarket .Costco spoke out last week they have run at a loss for two years and arent going ahead with expansion - NZ is the most expensive country they trade in in the world - he said it’s nothing to do with the duopoly - we have the highest fuel tax which makes our transportation costs the highest in the OECD - power costs are high but the cost of supplies to the supermarket are extremely high - one meat processing plant reported 188% increase in profit last year but the supermarkets are blamed for the high cost of meat .Seriously how thick does Nicola think we are they just spent a million dollars trying to get businesses to invest here and now she is going to break up a100 year old kiwi company when all the stats show they are not making excessive profits .The biscuit and Icecream manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank all their products are smaller but cost more and people don’t complain except to the supermarket staff !
I can't say I'm a fan of hers - she reminds me strongly of Ruth Richardson & I couldn't stand her,either.

Most of her trials though were with her reproductive system, and as a very young unmarried woman in the fifties all that went with that must have been incredibly difficult, until as she told me once, she learned 'you leave your dignity with your knickers darling, and put them both back on when its over'.
Valuable advice. She was a stunning woman who married an old fashioned man who never deserved her sadly, but lots of women meet that fate. I learnt a lot from her, especially about courage and personal strength.
Having not had kids makes it even harder, well for me it was.. My ex friend is the same she hasnt had any either.
I pushed her into having a mammogram, she had a lump..
She pushed me into having a smear, she had the odd cells.
I know Im over due for the latter.. But my mind has to be in the right spot.. and it isnt at the mo.
Oddly MrP said years ago, neither of us would get Cancer, well hes 50% right so far.
Drs and Winz done. Check.
Double vaccines at 3pm...
Dr agreed, it was angina.. Has given me a nitrolingual.. And told me to listen better.. I said Im deaf so slow at listening to my body.
He said your BP is Low.. I said Drink More fluid Mrs Burgess... he laughed and said the hospital said that I assume lol.
He is slowly learning my sense of humour lol.
WINZ said all good, has to be approved but if I dont hear anything by 5pm all good. Nice guy but he reminds me of my neighbour. But I thought he worked at the college.
So now I will find out where I can get rid of a collection of polystyrene and do my daily games.
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!

I use up polystyrene in my bigger pots, instead of terracotta pieces, for drainage and to save potting mix. Otherwise it gets broken up and put into the red top bin as household waste. There should be a way to recycle it, but so far I haven't heard of it...
I filled another bag for the op shops from the wardrobe, looking for one dress that just refused to be found till I pulled everything out. I needed to layer up a very long linen shirt over that dress and leggings to fit in with the slight drop in temperature, and with every hanger I asked myself - did you wear this? And out they went. Now I have space for my winter gear currently squished into one of those oh so useful clear plastic zip bags bedding often comes in, that'll need emptying and shaking out some day soon now that it is downhill into the cool days.

I never thought about using it in pots..
I put a post up in a couple of local groups and a person who works at Mitre10 in Pukekohe says they take it, and he will take it to work with him to save me a trip.
My clothes will fill bot wardrobes and the clothes rack I brought years ago for markets. I think.. Ill throw a sheet over the ones on the rack.
I had thinned them out then inherited most of mums clothes from the home lol.. Oops.. but it is nice knowing Im extending their life and its kind of like her hugging me with her clothes
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!

Good grief. It makes me want to weep - imagine the good that could be done with that money, the people who could be fed & housed & healed. I think it might take a special kind of evil to just throw it away on a game of golf.
I'm SO grateful my ancestors came here.

I'm SO grateful my ancestors came here. It’s interesting his family have their fingers in the pie - it’s not all fund raising - it’s corruption for sure .The construction industry over there must have given huge donations to get timber excluded from tariffs

Did you notice pharmaceuticals will not be tariffed. I wonder if that is because most are manufactured in India.

morning ladies It's supposed to rain today, we'll see.
We also saw Judith Collins' announcement on the news last evening. And while I agree a lot of our military gear is old and needs replacing and updating and we need to do our bit, I do wonder where this money has miraculously appeared from. The May budget will be very interesting.
Yesterday we had a very tuckered out Furry One lol. He was playing with my sister-in-law's dalmation and border collie cross like he was a pup. The three dogs had a ball racing each other around. As soon as they left, he crashed lol. The roses remain unplanted but that's OK. The ground they are going in is stubborn and I wouldn't ask anyone to dig there. And a couple of plants need moving as they are too close to the fence where the roses will go. Bring on Thursday when I can dig.
Grocery shopping today, we've run out of a few things. And while out and about I'll post my updated details to the Electoral Commission.
It's amazing how much better I feel each day. The flutters are there still but they are lessening. I knew I felt terrible before, but now realising just how awful it was. When I go for my clinic appointment, I'm taking a big box of chocolates for the team.
Happy crafting

Good Morning everyone
Dark wet and chilly here.
Kiwimade, Heart tired is indescribable in a way. and its not until you feel it that you understand.. Glad you are feeling better tho.
I remember asking the heart people in Auckland hospital and my different cardiologists if that's why I've always been worn out before any of my friends. Exactly is what they said.
I was worn out and sore last night. Getting in and out of the car can still be bad for the knee. I was using the stick again by the afternoon appointment.
And did you know you need to be awake with your eyes open to play card games lol...
Slept well tho..
Today my arm is sore from the shot. But I will pack what is left in the linen cupboard, I will miss that.. Its a double one with heaps of good shelving. There is only a half high hot water cupboard.. but now its just me and Ill be washing and putting my pretty new towels in, it will be enough.
I might repurpose one of the craft pantries for the blankets etc.
I will pack up my multiple jewellery boxes and give them to Dianne to look after.. Its something Ive always done. Making them safe until Im ready to bring them home.
Have a wonderful day everyone

We get used to the way our bodies work and the pain levels, we learn to live with it. When that improves suddenly it comes as a lovely surprise. I'm glad you are feeling good km.
Don't get this blasted bug. I am so over it.

Slowly but surely, we'll convert that lot over the ditch to Kiwi ways...

Pretty much what I thought when I heard that; though I may have perhaps been more sarcastic.
Its always the same with politicians; NO money to feed, house & heal those in need but absolutely NO problem whatsoever finding money for more shiny toys with which to kill our fellow humans.

I saw Chloe on the news and thought she made a valid point. Of course, there will be those that poo-hoo her, but someone has to say what others think out loud. The world is going to hell in a handcart.

morning ladies The weather is clearing, and I have one more sleep before I can plant the roses.
Ohh mica, I am sorry to hear this about your K9. You will miss him dearly, but I bet you will have another. It really is the last thing we ever do for our pets and such a privilege to be able to do for them.
That's a pretty cottage, popeye, but I would worry about having your address there for people to see. This is an open forum and anyone can visit
Yesterday afternoon I worked on the center of the hardanger and nailed it It's a nice feeling not to have to unpick.
This morning, I will bin the remainder of the weeds and prunings that have been sitting for two weeks. I need the garden space.
Next month MrK and I will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Not too bad considering we were told by so-called friends we would last two years. We thought we would buy fish and chips at the beach . We will also celebrate our birthdays at the same time. I'm a cheap date lol, even after all these years.
Time to get cracking, my coffee is finished and I need to move.
happy crafting

Today I scoot, cough or no cough, because I now have no loo paper and no wine. Crisis conditions in this house, lol... At least the rain has gone away!

Good morning everyone
The sun is up, the sky out the back is blue.. Was a cool night tho.
Have deleted the post. I was going to last night but my internet was having a hissy.
Congrats on your wedding anniversary..Kiwimade. we got to 33 married , 35 together. And yep they said it wouldn't last.. I think that makes us more determined to make it last. I have to remind people he wasn't always horrible. As his health went down the crap started. Lasted longer than his first lol.
Im also a cheap date.. Ive never been into parties, big flash dinners etc.. I have 4 ladies coming for my 60th birthday and thats all I want. Just to be together and have fun.
Ohh a new game show...
Ended up being a taxi for David yesterday. His van is being obnoxious.. so I followed him to the mechanics, and if its bad news cos he has spent quite a bit on it in the last couple of years I may have to take him shopping for a new one.. One thing Im good at is spending other peoples money lol.
Took him up to the home, but I stayed in the car and had a good chat with my sister in law. And he wisely didn't push the fact.
Pretty much only have my clothes, the pot cupboard and little bits in the sewing room to pack.. so I now have some days off lol.
Ohh Hunni desperate measures.. I can live without wine, but not my Pepsi.. and No one can live without toilet paper.. I still have an 8 pack in the hotwater cupboard strictly for emergencies. lol. I got it during Covid.. But havent been tempted to open it Yet.
Have a fab day all
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!
