Proposed by David Seymour.
This should put the whole thing to rest.

David Seymour is wrong.
The shock he & others got when there were such massive protests against his meddling should have been sufficient answer; the majority of us do NOT want any alterations to the treaty.
Further attempts such as a referendum are completely unneccesary.
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

The only reason Seymour wants a referendum is that he knows his rich backers will contribute enough to flood the media with misleading propaganda, to scare the ignorant...

No one in support put in submissions for a bill that was never going to get passed.
It's not surprising that nobody wasted their time putting in a submission.
The question remains "what are the principles of the treaty?"
This is a big problem for politicians because legislation can't be made when issues surrounding the treaty are involved.
Lots of things have to be in line with the treaty principles, but when they are not defined and open to interpretation, it opens a whole can of worms.
They should have been defined from the beginning and we would not even be in this mess.
David Seymour did a good job bringing it to the publics attention.
I knew very little on the subject until this bill was bought forward.
Why do we even need principles at all? The treaty treats us all equal regardless.

Maori have a special standing in NZ because they are indisputably the "People of the Land".
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

Where does the treaty specify this?
I was born in NZ too, and I along with maori are also a person of the land.
This racial division needs to end.
And the question still remains about why there needs to be principles that have no definition.

Because you take everything so literally and down to the last iota you are missing subtleties in normal life that other people just take for granted and find easy to understand.
I think you may have a well known condition which causes the afflicted to behave as you do. David Seymour has the same condition as well. Both of you and your excessive longings for things to be defined down to the last detail show a longing for certainty which unfortunately is not available in normal life, you will just have to toughen up and realize that we do not live in an ideal world.
I believe that the Universe and everything in it is a great work of art and as such, hard and fast rules taken to heart are a way and a road to great unhappiness.

Stupid boy. His referendum is a pipe dream. 90% of the politically active voting public say so...

What makes a maori a person of the land any more than myself or anyone born here?
All our ancestors were immigrants to NZ regardless of race.
