Should we make it illegal to
#1
...pretend to be a human being?

A friend of mine recently ended up yelling down her phone at a One NZ staffer because she was convinced that staffer was a bot. A robot in fact. Can we tell a fake human from a real one? Probably not.

We already have ai generated images of human beings scamming us, acting as sales people, help assistants, mimicking celebrities, even advising us and acting as our therapists - we can even create them ourselves. When though will this destroy our ability to trust other people? Something being a community relies upon.

Should we make that illegal? Use ai by all means, but maybe we should be able to know it is ai, not a real person. Just a fake. Something different, and to be treated accordingly.

Counterfeit people. If counterfeit money is illegal, imagine how dangerous fake people could be...
Regulate? Or not?

Like everything, there's both good & bad in artificial 'beings'; but perhaps the potential for the damage they could cause might be sufficient to ban them, or if not an outright ban, restrict them somehow so they're unable to create havoc.
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

Just knowing a responder was ai, or an image was ai - watermarked perhaps? Or voice altered... There has to be a way of identifying the difference.

We know ai can tell lies, maybe we need to be a bit more careful.

The really scary thing is that, if we can't tell the difference then the possibilities for future havoc & probable tragedies could be horrific.
