It's not a Boeing 737 Max which was the problem type, it's a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner which is their flagship aircraft, no crashes besides this one but it is the one that had smoking Lithium batteries in the passenger compartment on its first flight.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

Looks to me as if they pulled back the flaps and lost lift rather than the landing/take off wheels to lower drag.

His brother also on that flight,was killed so he's likely to have life long problems.

My guess is pilot error, they retracted the flaps instead of the wheels.
