They wouldn't do that, it would mean that they wouldn't get the high prices that they get for the rentals they own.
Time to ban MP's from owning rental properties perhaps, or limit the number they (or family members) can own.
Yeah. That's going to happen..

Yes it's a revelation to realize that is probably the reason why there will always be a shortage of housing for poor people, because the rich people from both of the main parties want to get maximum rentals fees from their rental properties which they own.
How about this one, which for some reason I have never heard before: JFK was assassinated because he opposed Israel getting nuclear weapons. I always thought that it was the Teamsters Union who were made up of mainly Protestant W.A.S.P.s who opposed a Catholic President.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

Maybe, instead of banning landlord MPs, we just didn't vote for them.

Well...that's different anyway.
We may never know the truth.

Wtf is wrong with us? We could do worse than to follow the Welsh example; they have a 'duty to assist' legislation to help prevent homelessness. It holds local authorities responsible to prevent homelessness.

And of course, nothing at all to do with those stricter emergency housing rules

Surely you do realise that such a person is not representative of the whole group?
You did read the story you linked to? Only that one person from the flat was reported to be behaving that way.
I'm sure in your mind, the other tenants are just as bad by association, but if that were true, why does the article only mention bad behaviour from one of them? Hmm...

Using a bit of common sense it seems likely that the tenant responsible may have had various problems which could cause such behaviour, perhape even a mental illness.
And clearly not every last Kainga Ora tenant is behaving in a similar manner.
As per usual the media made it very clear that its a Kainga Ora property, something they've taken to doing lately which is extremey interesting. I wonder if we can expect them to also name privately owned properties when they have similar problems...?

of course you could take them in

Someone like that clearly needs a lot more help than what the average person could provide, and I'm certainly not rolling in money either, so no, I couldn't take them in, actually.

and leaving someone like that to live under a bridge is probably not the best outcome for society either...

Well yes - but see those are poor people, & apparently successive govts simply don't give a toss about them.
Shame on them.

Maybe parliament should be like Jury duty so we all have a crack. Most MPs have zero work experience anyway and some get a portfolio and NONE of them have real world experience there

Interesting idea - & perhaps a case could be made that they could hardly do a worse job - but we might then end up with total idiots, including racists.
Although...looking at what we have now...the idea has some merit.

Perhaps, but never underestimate the stupidity of idiots...
Couldn't be worse than America, though, surely?

Thing is, there is a wealth of good science based on serious research on homelessness, prisons, work, parenting, energy, climate change, economics - every human activity our governments are involved in.
But they don't refer to it, or have their staff check it out. They just repeat the party line and stay in their lanes rather than risk trying something different. And if someone suggests something different they get shouted down by the dinosaurs who feel challenged...
It is infuriating.

I take issue with the zero work experience. Most MPs have had other jobs, it's more that those jobs are not governing. And politics isn't governing either. In fact, politics gets in the way of governing just as much as any other form of work experience. We are hiring people with all the wrong skillsets and expecting them to learn on the job, with the added complication of a set term, multiple masters, and an ever changing set of priorities.
No wonder it is mostly idiots who want the job. It could be the Peter Principle at work, or it could just be that sensible people do other things...
