Why are we at Orange?

[Removed: Rule 2a]
as insults go that barely rates a response
a 9 year old girl could come up with something better than that.
runaway back to your little friends now, your attempt at trolling has been a sad failure
i can see why you would look elsewhere for somewhere to post, some of the most extreme shit ive ever seen comes out of there.
it cant be a whole lot of fun being with the most racist aspd' paranoid pedo obsessed incels assembled under one banner.
youre trying way too hard to fit in there.

i didnt avoid those threads, go have a look, its all there, as is yours.
i got repeated warnings for attacking the rectal section.
it finally dawned on me, after a conversation with admin. hes a ct moron too!!
thats why he encourages it. thats why he protects the worst of them.
what he has achieved over there isnt happenstance, its what he set out o create.
hes happy with it.
yet it is the butt of jokes at other places, people laugh at it. seems 80% of posters are newbies so either banned retreads or its become a magnet for that set.

its not a nice place.

"Why aren't you there now addressing all this bullshit and lies?  Too scared?"

at least you admit its bullshit and lies.
do i seem like the kind of person that avoids conflict to you? do i give the impression that id walk away from a shitfight?
i had to go, i wouldnt relent. most of the posters there are intimidated by the cockwomble cabal.
i was starting threads that mocked them.
one or two of them may have gotten the sharp edge of my tongue.
go have a look, whats left after admin purged it still makes fun reading.

I hate deletions. I know sometimes it is necessary, but perhaps it is better to poof the entire conversation rather than leave a one sided plus gaps up.

I think it is easy enough to surmise what might have been said from Magoos response.

I personally feel respondents should not be censured by having their own reply deleted, just because the offending post was removed - doesn't seem fair to me, and in some way i think helps reinforce the moderation message, who gets the last word etc

But if everyone would be happier if all replies were deleted as well, that can be considered - I have actually yesterday posted my moderating process as a draft in the admin forum for other mods/admin to comment on so we can get everyone on the same page and moderating the same way...

Deletions are also intended to make folks think about their posts as they are typing them, I'm sure it will make one think twice if one spends however long concocting the perfect 'witty repertoire' (to steal a line from Magoo), if there is a risk it will be deleted...

There was more than a couple of rules broken in those posts...

hope you dont think i was complaining about here
ive never complained of deleted posts here because ive no beef with it.
i didnt complain over there either, and whole threads were taken down.
admin trumps all,
nothing has been deleted here that wasnt in the rules.
i take it on the chin.
moderating = keeping things moderate
i can be a bit...intense.

eta most of my content was removed post departure

all good, as long as everyone posts with due consideration of the rules, you can still do battle, so to speak... We are 'reasoned ' keyboard warriors here, otherwise this place turns into that place and nobody's happy

Don't get me wrong, I like the way you guys are running this place. I like the way you listen. The way we can critique and not feel awkward doing so. It bodes well for the future of the site.

Yes, I'd second that. And while I think that idiots & trolls on forums are best ignored, which deprives them of the reaction they want, there are times when you just can't resist replying.

Also the announcement this week of the Omicron "plan" due to be released if 1 or 2 weeks time seems to suggest there is no plan as such.  If there was why wouldn't you release it now?  Why the wait?

Completley agree, we should have been green pre-omicron pretty much everywhere.

Even now under their own breakdown of each light we shouldn't be a red.  Certainly not with the vax rates we have here.

i would have thought 95% be plenty too.
kinda surprised by being in red.
im thinking theyve looked overseas to see the impact, figured out the omicron is not as deadly but very hard on health services and employers in general and are trying to lessen that.

rational thought tells us they are trying to help.
its not a socialist/communist/fascist takeover.
why would they do anything else but try? i see no upside to purposely being heavy handed with our freedoms.
theres no money to follow, no political payoff certainly.
these are moral/ethical decisions that honestly most governments wish they didnt have to make.

I think if Omicron hadn't surfaced we could have gone to green and followed what was originally planned. But Omicron did surface and now it's here and red seems to be holding it back. We had several super-spreader events in the last few days of orange and had we been in green we would now be following NSW. So far we seem to be doing OK, although it's still only early days.

We've got to the stage where the modellers can't seem to agree on what's to come over the next few weeks, so the better move in the long-run is just to play it cautiously.

Think about weather forecasting. Forecasts always err on the side of caution. It's in the best interests of meteorologists to forecast the crappier weather even if there's less likelihood of it playing out. If they don't, and the weather turns, then unprepared people are at a greater risk of harm/getting wet and/or blown away. People will get grumpy, but way less grumpy than if they predict rain and it turns out to be sunny all day.

With Covid, the Powers-That-Be have to be cautious. You don't win plaudits for rolling dice in a pandemic.

we can get a pretty good idea from other countries tho?

An indication, yes.

But when it comes to comparing countries it's not a case of like for like. They've all had different circumstances play out over the last couple of years. In our case, we haven't really had any waves of Covid doing the rounds so we're putting all our stock in a vaccine. If we simply adopted the overseas models and behaved accordingly, at the very least there's going to be a level of prior infection immunity in their models that our modellers would need to weed out.

Not that I really know what I'm talking about since I'm guessing they just click on the line of best fit option in Excel for their projections which is the only way I can see us getting to 50,000 cases a day!

Agreed 90% vaxxed is pretty damn impressive.
Not many countries have achieved that.
If 90% vax rate is not enough to stop the spread, nothing will.
