The Fall of the Soviet Union in Rare Pictures, 1991

How well do you remember this.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

I'd forgotten quite a bit of that, striking images though.
There's something seriously wrong with our species; why have we still not learned to live in peace...?
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

Hazard, living with the excitement of danger, not clearly defined but ever-present.
Part of our primeval/primordial nature, we don't want to be bored by predictability.
A combination of our hunting instinct together with danger and being daring.

I remember the Soviet flag on the TV1 news growing up, but I was at too young an age to even know what it was all about.
Many experts believe that the chernobyl disaster marked the beginning of the fall of the Soviet union.

No, not idiots, complex beings from a hazardous, fraught past, this is from deep inside our very being, our soul if you like, you have to understand where these drives derive from to counteract them, unfortunately few do.
We've always had to stay alert to stay alive in the past.
They blame the devil, lol, or some complex, psychological state or another. It's the challenges we've faced and overcome as a group in the past, and the responses we developed as a result.

A big problem is the amount of mental stimulation that modern life presents that results in elevated cortisol levels. Ongoing background stress has a lot of health and behavioural problems to answer for. Stress is a big contributor to illness which is probably why disease can be broken down to dis-ease.
And being in a state of fight or flight isn't a great base for making wise or well considered decisions.

We really have to try to do better; we know that in these times we don't need to be on alert all the time.
With any luck I'll know more soonish; there's a book I've got on hold at the library, Why are we like this? Zoe Kean, which might have some answers....she said ever so hopefully.
