An empathy free zone it seems - as well as tactless...

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/...-good.html

"The ACT Party is calling the announcement by the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) to slash about 9 percent of its staff "good".

MPI's proposal to cut 384 jobs emerged in an email to staff on Thursday afternoon. About 40 percent of proposed cuts are for vacant roles.
It comes as MPI tries to scramble 7.5 percent in cash savings from July 1, as demanded by the Government ahead of May's Budget.
Other ministries and departments have been asked to make similar savings."

Top 10 happiest countries in the world

  1. Finland
  2. Denmark
  3. Iceland
  4. Sweden
  5. Israel
  6. Netherlands
  7. Norway
  8. Luxembourg
  9. Switzerland
  10. Australia

For the seventh year in a row, Finland has landed the top spot on the World Happiness Report’s annual ranking of the happiest countries in the world.
Countries are ranked according to self-assessed life evaluations and answers to the Cantril ladder question which asks respondents to think of a ladder with the best possible life for them being a 10 and the worst being a 0 and then rate their current lives on that scale.
No. 1 happiest country in the world: Finland
Finland took the No. 1 spot on the list with a score of 7.741. According to Frank Martela, a Finnish philosopher and psychology researcher, Finnish people are happy because they have a strong sense of community and relatedness, do good deeds for other people, and find a clear purpose for themselves.

Finland outperforms the average country in education, work-life balance, environment quality, social connections, safety and life satisfaction, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Better Life Index.
Life expectancy at birth in Finland is around 82 years, 85 for women and 79 for men.

The Finnish people’s strong sense of community is further proven by the OECD Better Life Index, which states that 96% of people believe they know someone they can rely on in their time of need."

https://edition.cnn.com/travel/worlds-ha...index.html

"The survey asks each participant to score their life as a whole, considering what they value, said John Helliwell, emeritus professor of economics at the Vancouver School of Economics, University of British Columbia, and a founding editor of the World Happiness Report.
“And you find out Finland’s pretty rich in all of those things, like wallets being returned if they’re dropped in the street, people helping each other day in and day out, very high quality and universally distributed health and education opportunities — so everyone more or less comes out of the starting gate the same,” he said.
He also noted that Finland has happy immigrants, “so it’s something that they’re prepared to share with newcomers.”
The report looks at six key variables to help explain life evaluations: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity and perceptions of corruption."

  Rotorua cancels rainbow story time
Posted by: Lilith7 - 21-03-2024, 02:34 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (13)

The McBishop will be well pelased... Dodgy

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/ldr/512228/ro...y-concerns

"Rotorua Library's Rainbow Storytime event has been cancelled due to security concerns amid "hostile dialogue" and "rapid spread of misinformation", the council says.
It comes after Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki last week pledged to shut down the event prompting calls for a counter-protest to protect attendees. Two Rotorua Lakes Council elected members clashed over differing views of the event.
The free event planned for Thursday would have seen Taranaki drag queen entertainers Coco (Sunita Torrance) and Erika Flash (Daniel Lockett) reading children books such as Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae.

The council released a statement this afternoon advising the event will no longer be held.
It said Rainbow Storytime was a family-friendly event aimed at younger children, including book-reading, singing and dancing.
"The event is focussed on acceptance, anti-bullying, inclusion, being kind and having confidence in yourself. It has been a popular event in many other libraries and registrations for the event at Rotorua Library were full.

"Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, we have had to make the decision to cancel the event."
The statement said the council knew it would be disappointing for the children, parents and community members who wanted to participate in an "entertaining and empowering experience".
"Rotorua Library is an inclusive and safe space that encourages understanding and tolerance in our community and we have received a lot of positive feedback and support for the event.
"Unfortunately, not all our residents feel the same way and we have become aware that protests have been organised that changes the security profile of this event."

It acknowledged people's right to peaceful protest but said "multiple attempts" to contact protest representatives asking them to respect the space, library users and those who had chosen to attend the event went unanswered.
"Without these assurances, [the] council needed to review its security plan for Rainbow Storytime.
"We considered the hostile dialogue on social media and the rapid spread of misinformation about the performers and the purpose of the event as key factors."
It said the safety of those attending and its staff was a priority - and was especially important for events designed for younger children."

But it seems that the creator of Rainbow storytime is a former member of Tamaki's 'church.'

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/kahu/brains-b...FPXHH5L2Q/

"The creator of the Rainbow Storyline readings that Brian Tamaki has shut down in Rotorua is a former Destiny Church member who is angered at the abuse she and drag queen Daniel Lockett, who she reads with, have received from Tamaki’s team.
Sunita Torrance - stage name Coco - is the drag queen performer behind the Rainbow Storytime readings. Torrance and Lockett - Erika Flash - dress in drag and read children books such as Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae.

Torrance said since news of Tamaki’s protest action had been made public, she and Lockett had been abused and threatened.

Tamaki told the Herald he makes no apology for forcing the Rotorua cancellation.
I am so proud of our teams and the people of Rotorua who stood up to local council and Drag Queens in Libraries Storytelling our Children,” Tamaki said.

As a father and great-grandfather, I will go to any lengths to protect my children.
Many good people have been trying to get these shut down for a while now, but I’m happy to lend my assistance to this cause, to finally make that possible. They are inappropriate as they sexualise our Kiwi children.
I now have set my sights on events planned at the Gisborne Library and Hastings Library next week.”

Torrance said she was bought up as part of the Destiny Church whānau.
About 20 years ago me and my mum attended Destiny Church,” Torrance said.

"I grew up in the church, so I have that upbringing and I would never subscribe to the idea of telling people they shouldn’t exist - where does that come from?”

We had 80 people registered for Rotorua, they are the ones who will miss out.

I created this curriculum on my own and it’s about children reading and having fun.”
The online abuse has come quick and hard, Torrance said, and contained inaccuracies.

Lockett’s character, based on Erika in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, has been twisted to suit others’ agendas.
We have been targeted online and the abuse has been terrible.

They are publishing our names and our photos and crossing the line but being called a paedophile is about the lowest thing you can do to anyone.
Daniel is about to move to London to work and who would want that type of accusation hanging around?

These people talk about freedom of speech but sounds like just their type of speech is acceptable.”

Kainga Ora, Swarbrick pressures Luxon to resign
Posted by: Lilith7 - 20-03-2024, 10:30 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (10)

Chloe Swarbrick has pressured Christopher Luxon to resign if children are made homeless due to his 'get tough' stance  on Kainga Ora housing.

https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/national/...9d12&ei=14

"New Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick's putting pressure on the Prime Minister to resign if any children are made homeless due to his Government's Kāinga Ora policies.
The Government on Monday announced it was taking a tougher stance on unruly Kāinga Ora tenants, including evictions.

Swarbrick questioned Christopher Luxon in the House on Tuesday about the impact on children living in Kāinga Ora housing - but failed to get a commitment on if he'd put his job on the line.
"Well, we don't actually want to see KO tenants being evicted from KO housing but actually the parents are adults and they have a choice to make about whether they want to meet their obligations and their responsibilities," Luxon said.

Swarbrick pushed again, asking: "Will he resign if any children are made homeless as a result of his Government's policies?"

"There are children that are growing up in motels today that are living on floors of family or friends or in community housing provider housing who actually want a shot and their families want a shot at being able to get into the state house," Luxon responded.

"The problem today is that there is 24,000 people on a state house waitlist which went up four or five times under the previous Government. There are neighbours in those KO communities who are getting abused and I'm sorry but we're standing up for those folk and saying to them 'there are rights and responsibilities in this country'."
The Greens have previously come out against the policy, with housing spokesperson Tamatha Paul calling it "particularly cruel" for the Government to look at punishing state housing tenants for struggling to pay rent. "

"Evicting more people from Kāinga Ora homes shows the Government is ignorant to the consequences of poverty, the Greens say, but the Housing Minister says state housing is a privilege that can be taken away if abused.

The Government is demanding Kāinga Ora take a tougher stance on unruly social housing tenants, saying the agency needs to make "timely usage" of formal warning notices and relocations under the Residential Tenancies Act, and to "accelerate the process of tenancy termination" in severe and persistent cases.
The Green Party has slammed the policy, saying the it will "result in a proliferation of poverty and trauma across our most vulnerable communities".
Green Party housing spokesperson Tamatha Paul said the Government was seeking to define a category of undeserving poor people.
"Ignorant to the consequences of poverty, people living in state housing are now in the government's firing line.
"Today's announcement that the Government will evict more state housing tenants, despite there being nowhere else for them to go, marks the latest episode in the coalition's series of assaults against people and communities who need support the most."

Speaking to RNZ's Checkpoint, Housing Minister Chris Bishop said anybody evicted from social housing would still have some options.
"They will have to consider a range of accommodation options, as to what they do. Maybe bunking with friends and family, maybe looking to the private rental market if they possibly can. They will have to consider their options."

"Consider their options" - why yes of course, now then will it be the old ramshackle shed with only a few holes in the roof, the abandoned car with one door missing,  or will it be underneath that cosy looking bridge.... Dodgy

You guys pushed a bunch of woke propaganda and misinformation, misquoted speech and twist it out of context to suit your biased left wing agenda.
We are seeing it right now with what they are saying about Winston Peters.
You got what you asked for, so don't act surprised.
I hope NZ herald is next on the chopping block.
Go woke, go broke.
The legacy media has had its day, citizen journalism is the new age of media and thanks to elon musk taking over Twitter, we are one step closer to free speech and the truth.

Sad news.
Another piece of kiwiana gone off the shelves.
Just look at the prices a box is selling for on Trademe.
Reminds me of what happened with snifters.
I feel that poor marketing might be a role to play.
Just been around a few dairies and none of the staff even knew what they were!
One shopkeeper at the store that I would always get them from said they only ever made one shipment per year and that the machinery was 100 years old that made them!

  Disability funding changes 'callous'
Posted by: Lilith7 - 19-03-2024, 06:02 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (9)

From the Bastards R' Us govt. Dodgy

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/512...abour-says

"Labour says the government's move to narrow disability support funding criteria is "callous", and breaks a promise not to cut frontline services.
The government argues the amount of funding has not been cut - just what it can be spent on.
Whaikaha, the Ministry for Disabled People, unveiled changes on Monday to purchasing rules for disabled people's equipment and modifications supports and services.
This meant things that "would be considered something that every citizen has to pay for" would not be eligible, among a range of other restrictions.

The ministry said the changes - which took effect on the same day they were announced - did not reduce the amount of funding allocated to disabled people, and only made clear what could be purchased.
Labour's Disability Issues spokesperson Priyanca Radhakrishnan said the announcement was very unclear, but it was a cut.
"This is a cut to frontline services, let's be very clear about that," she said.
"This is support services that disabled people and their carers rely on ... it is narrowing the criteria to the funding to such an extent that parents who've contacted me say they won't be able to access anything through it. That's a cut."

She said the move flew in the face of the ethos of a 20-year programme that had pushed for greater flexibility for disabled people around the use of funding.

"This is unacceptable. This is taking flexibility and choice away from disabled people and their carers, and there is a lot of anger out there about the fact that there was no consultation or engagement around this. It came out really suddenly through a facebook post, I understand, yesterday - and it was implemented as of yesterday.

"The word that some parents have used that I completely agree with, is 'callous'."

"This whole conversation about the Enabling Good Lives appropach and the shift towards more flexiblity started 20 years ago ... successive governments have been implementing parts of that, we had committed to extending the support ... we were going to extend that to two more [sites] and extend it further.

"I've heard the comment that this is taking us back 20 years to the start of that, and I worry that it is."
