I have a (possibly silly) question please.
Posted by: captain fantastic - 17-02-2020, 11:53 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (19)

Hi all. When I want to reply to somebody's post, do I press "Reply" or "Quote"? When I pressed reply, it seemed as though it might be sent as a PM to the individual member. When I pressed quote, nothing really happened. (Or so it appeared to me).  So how do you just quote and reply to another poster the same way we did on Trademe?

Sorry I know this sounds like a dumb question, but it's all a learning experience.

Star GM to scrap Holden brand in Australia and New Zealand
Posted by: Zak410 - 17-02-2020, 02:51 PM - Forum: Motoring - Replies (7)

End of an era :

"The Holden car brand will be no more, with General Motors opting to dump the name synonymous with Australian motoring by 2021.

After closing the company's local manufacturing operations in 2017, GM said it had taken the "difficult" decision to retire the brand from sales in both Australia and New Zealand after considering numerous options to revive Holden's flagging sales."

We lost our Ralph 3 weeks ago, he was killed on the road. Very sad.  He was an incredible cat.

We also have.
The fat ginger boys, Tom & Bob.
The bush cat, Gordon.
The powder-puff Bicheon, Jax.
A high-strung GSD, Ruffie.
A pitty x, Bruce.
A first hereford X heifer, Ruby-Moo

  Golden Age of Gaming
Posted by: wholetruth - 17-02-2020, 09:08 AM - Forum: Gaming - Replies (10)

Probably nostalgia speaking, but my favourite period for gaming was the mid-to-late 90's.

Full texture mapping was becoming do-able. The Dooms and Quakes of the world found themselves cloned over and over again.

With the introduction of the CD-ROM, we started seeing gloriously unnecessary cut-scenes and grainy FMV. Big-name Hollywood stars would woodenly act their way through scripts that made little sense, in an environment that confused them greatly. Finally, I could click on Christopher Walken and make him do things.

With CD technology came great sound. No need for text-to-speech synthesis, yay!

3D cards slid into view with varying levels of support. Programmers could now throw out as many colours as they like, assuming that the user's Voodoo card would cope. Lesser mortals would sigh, and pick the software rendered mode, wondering how many fps they were going to be treated to. 10? 15?

Lucas Arts and to a lesser extent Sierra were still making great point & click games, but their time was coming to an end.

Just unearthed a bunch of computer magazines from the period and it's funny how quickly I was recognising an ad for a game, and recalling the publisher's logo be it Gremlin, Psygnosis, etc.
