Is this a scam? |

Last night I was about to start my backup when there were several pings and messages in the bottom right corner of the screen. They said that I had been hacked, had several viruses (3, 5 or 7), that my computer subscription to Norton, and to McAfee had expired, and wanting me to pay them. I have not used McAfee for at least 10 years, and Norton is on auto payment. I scanned using Malwarebytes, and Norton: both were clear.
A message has just popped up telling me that McAfee payment has failed!
Th originating site is: "cupf1v0hubcc73bffrhg.mergechainsolutions.co.in"
How do I get rid of this?

Hanif Kureishi (not writing about Luxon but spot on nonetheless):
"We've replaced the search for knowledge with the pursuit of metric-driven self-optimisation. The power of the narcissist is always based on exclusion, oppression and humiliation, sucking the life out of others and using it for their enhancement."

Chrome mmrtb.com redirect |

Having trouble getting rid of mmrtb.com. I believe its called a browser redirect. Lost a few hours chasing this over some weeks already, but it keeps coming back.
Defender overheats CPU so I've been reluctant to complete a full scan. Online ESET didn't find anything either as did Malwarebytes.
Deleted all extensions.
Is Spyhunter safe enough? It has a free trial.
Scanned registry for mmrtb: nothing.
Searched "This PC" :nothing
Thanks.
