Our short sighted, greed crazed govt does it again. The delightful people pretending to represent us all have decided that its perfectly fine to stuff up the seabed for an entire 30 years.
Never mind the species its likely to kill, there's money to be made.

Interesting bit of science revealed recently that it isn't the trees making all our oxygen, but our oceans. It is also true that of all the places on our planet, the waters are the one least explored, most strange, least understood. So no, I am not in favour of treasure hunting in that realm, but also fatalistic about the stupidity of the human race.
The planet will recover, our species probably not.

The impression here in Taranaki is that feelings are running extremely high against the proposed seabed mining off of South Taranaki. Expect significant retaliatory action against those embarking on it with property damage and physical harm very likely.

Good. I'm all for a bit of good old fashioned corporate property damage, so long as no lives are put at risk.

And it isn't just here, but all across the world idiots can't see past those dollar signe in their eyes & are prepared to destroy the home we all share in order to become wealthy.
If the seas make oxygen & we manage to somehow muck it up then we're probably done for - but all is not lost, no not all. Those who are wealthy will be able to have coffins made of pure gold...
Just how stupid are we...

Can't say that I blame them; somebody has to try to prevent the madness. Just not physical harm against people- - even if they are idiots.

What we need is more Luigi's not less or none.
It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

So you've got a magic formula for not getting ripped off by the corporations especially over medical insurance.
Got to have an outlet for frustrations even if it's only wish fufilment
My insurance for my unit and contents has just got up from $295 to $2200 dollars in 7 years.

I guess the answer to that one is everyone has a choice not to use the services provided by a company

Nope the HOA/Body Corp makes it compulsory if you've bought a Unit.

good, make it 60 years Should be 100 years, we need all the mining we can get to bring this country back into prosperity.
Even better would be for the government to run their own mines and keep all the profit instead of taking a fraction of the profits from overseas companies.

Back into prosperity? You swallowed that load of tosh without gagging?
We are one of the richest small nations on the planet. We don't need to mine, or develop gas fields. There are perfectly viable alternatives that do not escalate climate change or further exploit the natural environment. But the lobbyists for the internationals are not interested in those. They are not personal wealth producing...

Wind and wave power, solar farming with molten salt battery reservoirs. Solar panels on all public buildings, including transport hubs and parking building, subsidisies for residential installations of panels and heat pump hot water systems. Charging technology in new roading. Underwater turbines in coastal areas - Japan has some brilliant work underway on that...
As for metals and plastics, improve recycling facilities. We have more than enough resources currently going into landfill, we simply cannot afford to throw those valuable materials away. The technology is there, just needs the investment.
Maybe put money there, instead of into prison development...
And I'm sure there's more.
