  Sally Field's abortion statement
Posted by: Oh_hunnihunni - 09-10-2024, 08:34 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (1)

In among the crap coming out of American politics, there are some things that just break my heart. This one is an example. Thank all that is good I live in this country, where we are by no means perfect, but at least the days of illegal and appallingly cruel abortion deliveries are gone. May we never go back to them.

This is very interesting, quite a long read but worthwhile.

  Vaccination booking system
Posted by: Olive - 08-10-2024, 12:34 PM - Forum: Covid-19 - Replies (19)

I made an appointment for two of us through the Book My Vaccine website.  Got the usual confirmations and a text reminder this morning.   We turned up at the venue to be told that they aren't vaccinating any more and the website had been notified but hadn't updated its information.   So we drove to the only other local provider, a pharmacy, to be told that they are out of stock, that they don't take bookings any more either, and that we should try them again in a few days' time to see if their new stock has arrived but it could be the week after.

So much for the productivity gains from sacking the back room staff who would have updated the web site:   this has used up at least an hour of two people's time.

I am furious.   Covid is still real!

The latest incarnation of Tui billboard statements is raising a few eyebrows.

  Hurricane Milton

This hurricane is strengthening 'explosively' reaching an expected category 5 within around 24 hours. A lesson in how much energy has been absorbed by our oceans, which is now being released as an example of nature's real might.

  Why free school lunches matter
Posted by: Lilith7 - 08-10-2024, 10:53 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (6)

While its true that our generation never needed free school lunches, it is also true that there was then no NeoLiberal agenda affecting our lives, & there was then the reality that one wage could support a family.
There was no mean spirited agenda which does not mind at all if kids go hungry, & as a result aren't as able to learn,as there is now.

The very obvious point is that hungry kids are unable to learn properly; feed the kids & that improves the problem...unless of course, the aim  is to create a larger 'under class' who will do all the shitwork for peranuts because they've no alternative.

In which case those who want this would do well to look at history, particularly that of France & Russia...

  TV monitor
Posted by: Excalibur - 07-10-2024, 08:18 PM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (11)

I have a Panasonic Viera TV and a PC, both of unknown history, or if they even work well.

Connected eveything up with HDMI cable, fans spin, mobo lights flash, TV displays size? then shows video for about 1 second before going blank.
I discovered bios battery holding just 0.5v but a replacement did not fix.
During the 1 second of video, I can see it displays either:

Megatrends splash screen.
BIOS.
Windows desktop.

My thought is a config issue but I didn't have at hand a regular monitor to swap to.

Going back to this Thursday so hope to have a way forward by then.
Thanks for any help.

  Possible sighting of Marakopa family

They've got a helicopter up looking, so they think its credible. It would be lovely for the rest of their family if they could be home for Xmas.

Gmail search giving little to no results
Posted by: nzoomed - 07-10-2024, 09:57 AM - Forum: PressF1 - Replies (4)

I've noticed for a bit now that I have been unable to locate some email conversations in my inbox.
At first I thought I may have accidentally deleted the messages but today I when i went to look for an order reference number which is in the body of a fresh email that has just arrived and nothing shows, yet there are at least 2 other emails in here and none are displaying in the results.
Doesn't matter if it's my mobile app or my web browser.
Anyone noticed anything similar?
See screenshot.
