Boeing Isn't Only Having Problem With The Aircraft They Design
Posted by: zqwerty - 03-08-2024, 11:25 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (2)

NASA says it is “evaluating all options” for the safe return of Starliner crew

I've been following this for two months or so.

Basically the Thrusters have been leaking Helium (the propellant) due to not being tested properly and are now seen as being maybe not up to the task required.

And here is the comment thread on Reddit to gain more insight into the problems:

https://old.reddit.com/r/space/comments/...s_for_the/

Here's a background article on Starliner:

https://arstechnica.com/space/2024/05/th...ed-at-all/

These are the key changes that brought Boeing down:

"The institutional failures that led to these twin tragedies (the two Boeing 737 Max's that crashed) are well explained in a book by Peter Robison, Flying Blind. Robison covered Boeing as a reporter during its merger with McDonnell Douglas a quarter of a century ago and described how countless trends since then—stock buybacks, a focus on profits over research and development, importing leadership from McDonnell Douglas, moving away from engineers in key positions to MBAs, and much more led to Boeing's downfall."

Govt will not progress 8 recommendations
Posted by: Lilith7 - 02-08-2024, 07:00 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - No Replies

Eight of the recommendations made by the Royal Commission into the terror attack here will now not be progressed by this govt. There will not be a new, separate intelligence agency nor an advisory group on counter terrorism, no system for the public to safely report concerning behaviour or incidents & others will not now go ahead.

Short sighted idiocy, lacking in compassion & uncaring about possible future terrorist attacks & attempting to prevent them. Dodgy

  Du Val Group
Posted by: king1 - 02-08-2024, 02:41 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (2)

Never heard of them - but sounds like they are not having a good day today

Quote:The High Court has put Auckland apartment developer Du Val Capital Partners and other Du Val Group companies into interim receivership after an application from the Financial Markets Authority.
The interim receivership orders were also made in respect of property developers Kenyon Clarke and his wife, Charlotte Clarke.
Police were seen entering the couple’s place of residence in Remuera today.

Who was it said 'No front line services will be affected'
Posted by: king1 - 31-07-2024, 09:04 AM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (11)

This sounds like a broken promise to me... Here we are short staffed by thousands and they have effectivly put the breaks on all new hires by not fronting up with relocation costs?

So we can't train enough
we can't pay them enough to keep them here
and now we effectively have a complete block on any new hires

I guess the decline will continue...

Quote:Budget cuts are hampering recruitment of frontline health staff, despite promises from Te Whatu Ora's new commissioner to the contrary.
Emails seen by RNZ show Te Whatu Ora recruitment teams are getting mixed messages from its directors on who is covering relocation costs for overseas hires, paying for job ads and hiring through recruitment agencies.
The health sector is struggling with a lack of workers and cuts to the budget from the government, which says it is keen to get spending under control.
...
"Usually we'd pay for flights, hotels, but that's all stopped," they said. "If it costs money, we can't do it.
"[But] we're not allowed to tell [applicants] that. We basically go through the whole recruitment process, interviews, references, etc, until the offer stage."

  Children killed in UK attack
Posted by: Lilith7 - 30-07-2024, 03:17 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (5)

Mind boggling, that anyone could do such a thing. Poor wee kids, & their poor families.

Two children are dead & nine were injured in a knife attack at a children's dance workshop in Southport in the UK, while two adults who tried to intervene are in hospital. A 17 year old boy has been arrested.

I'm really not sure how they can justify this. It has at least made exceptions for cases of rape, incest, foetal abnormailties or when the mother's life is in danger so not as bad as it could be, but still one of the most restrictive policies.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving idiot. Rolleyes Big Grin Big Grin

He's now claiming that the point is not that a 'cat lady' such as Kamala Harris  is 'lesser'; the point according to him is that 'her party is anti child'...
