Canadian anti Trump billboards in US states
Posted by: Lilith7 - 27-03-2025, 10:59 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - No Replies

The Canadian govt has launched an anti Trump billboard campaign in 12 republican dominated states saying that the tariffs Trump on their country will harm American consumers; the billboards read " Tariffs are a tax on hard working Americans:" & "Tariffs are a tax at the gas pump."

Outlook stuck at 'Preparing to Send/Receive'
Posted by: king1 - 26-03-2025, 08:35 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (3)

anyone come across this, I have a client suffering from this for quite some time.

After opening Outlook it works fine for a while, up to several hours, but eventually it locks up when the status bar message is showing 'Preparing to Send/Receive' - and it never progresses to an actual Send/Receive...

In one photo sent to me I could see the reminders window showing the start of a 'not responding' in the title bar...

sleep disabled
hibernate off
outlook in safe mode does the same
killing it via task manager allows restarting Outlook but not ideal...
Office 365, windows 11.

It's been going on for a few months now, mainly due to client not wanting to pay me to fix this up until now, must have been driving her nuts all that time...

a simple reinstall may well sort it but just curious to know if anyone has any insights into this...

The case for boycotting the USA
Posted by: Lilith7 - 26-03-2025, 04:02 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - No Replies

Advising tourists to reconsider any trip to America;spending by non Americas is a significant source of tax revenue & there's no reason for tourists to indirectly support Trump's economy.

Failed hard drives NAS is it me or the hard drives?
Posted by: mickg - 26-03-2025, 12:33 PM - Forum: Computing and Technology - Replies (2)

I have been trying NAS lately. I bought a 2nd-hand Synology DS 115j and had a 1TB and 2TB fail, and then the 115j packed a sad.

So I have bought a Qnap TS-133, which is a lot harder for me to work out compared to the Synology, I have just had a new Iron wolf 4tb packed up now trying to set up Qnap Is it me or a coincidence ?

I'm 83, and I just want something simple to store my music and video files. But I have to admit the Qnap is a pain to set up and work with.

David Seymour banging on about equality

When what is truly needed is equity.
Which surely, he must know. I really find it difficult to believe that he'd be so badly educated or  ill informed as to be unaware of the difference.

"Wheeler said that his eldest daughter was nine, & his son was  seven - evidence showed that a Maori baby born today would die at the same time as both these Maori children.
I want that to sink in for a moment. The equity gap (for average life expectancy) is eight years for males & seven years for females...if this isn't the clearest example of how we fail to meet our Treaty obligations...I don't know what is."

  Free speech - Winston Peters
Posted by: Outsider - 23-03-2025, 05:18 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (11)

Do we not believe in free speech in this country any more?
I'm talking about Winston Peters speech today. He has the right to be heard and I have the right to hear him.
Makes me sick, those hecklers.

I couldn't even listen to the news as it was all about them.
Don't they realise other people may want to hear what he has to say - even though I may not agree with it?
Keep the hecklers out and record the speech with only reporters present.
