  Domino's Pizza gone woke
Posted by: C_T_Russell - 19-08-2023, 11:45 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (6)

I went to order some pizzas the other day and all the common pizzas were listed in Maori with the English name in light grey and smaller text.
WTF? Do they actually want to sell pizzas or what? They are sure making it hard to place an order!
What would be better is to actually give you the option of your language when you log into the app.
And that way they can track how many people use the maori version.

Being kept away from the media it seems.

Having explained how he ever so nobly does the shopping now & then to 'give his wife a break' he seems to be being kept at a distance from reporters.

  That vote at 16 thing...
Posted by: Oh_hunnihunni - 19-08-2023, 10:29 AM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (17)

Seems a bit strange to deny people the vote on the basis of age when at that age they are legally entitled to do all kinds of things, including get married, drive a car, consent or refuse medical treatment, have babies - or father them, change their name, leave home, leave school, get a firearms licence, be charged, represent their country overseas, and all sorts of other stuff...

But casting one vote among many? We can't let them do that? Can't grant them that privilege?

But, we allow so many incompetent adults to do it without issue. Bit precious of us 'grown ups' don't you think?

  This government hates farmers
Posted by: C_T_Russell - 18-08-2023, 11:21 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (39)

Anyone listen to newstalk ZB?
HDPA was on the air talking about this today, some last minute policy by labour to grab voters away from the greens.
She said it's predicted to cause 1 in every 5 farms to close down. Dairy farmers are forecast to loose $80K per year with current milk prices and they want to slap more regulations to force food prices up more and extra compliance costs.
The only way to reduce these BS emissions is to have less animals. Now they are talking about vaccines, drugs, genetic engineering and all sorts of shit to put into these animals to reduce emissions.
Perhaps the best thing is to see all our farms close and then wait for all the townies to winge when there is no milk or meat on the supermarket shelves.
Then they will only have insects to enjoy on the dinner table.
If farms fail to make profit,  then our economy is screwed and so is a great chunk of revenue for the govt too.
These guys running this sinking ship are a bunch of clowns.

Sandra Bullock & the idiots who think she should return her Oscar
Posted by: Lilith7 - 18-08-2023, 04:35 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - No Replies

This really is pathetic - she's an actor who portrayed a role to the best of her ability & in doing so was awarded an Oscar. She had nothing whatever to do with the exploitation of Michael Oher & to his credit, he' said as much.

Perhaps we humans are becoming more stupid. And to attack her so soon after the death of her partner is undeniably cruel.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/ce...cancel-her

"Actress Sandra Bullock lost her partner Bryan Randall this month after he lived with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for three years. Two weeks later, an online campaign is pushing for the star to forfeit her Academy Award.

On Tuesday (NZT), former NFL offensive tackle Michael Oher, whose adoption story was at the heart of the 2009 film The Blind Side, alleged the story was a lie fabricated by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy to profit off their purported son’s success.

As the revelation sets in that the whole world – including Oher himself – was hoodwinked by the Tuohys, an online pile-on to find a villain to blame has seen Bullock pulled into the firing line, with some on X/Twitter calling on the actress to give up the Academy Award she won for playing Leigh Anne.

Bullock’s portrayal of the Tuohy matriarch painted a picture of a compassionate mother led by grace and Christian belief, a woman who would do anything to give her supposed adopted son a chance. Before accepting the role, Bullock had turned it down three times initially out of concern for portraying a Christian, telling Cross Walk the “banner waving” scared her as she “[doesn’t] buy a lot of people who use that as their shield.”
She described meeting Leigh Anne and feeling convinced she had found a Christian who “practises but doesn’t preach,” and soon after accepted the role.

Even Quinton Aaron, the actor who portrayed Oher, added his two cents to the debate, saying he wishes those demanding Bullock return her Oscar “would just leave her alone” after she’s “suffered a great loss”. There's a lot of hate being spread around nowadays. And there's you know, someone asked me, there's people saying things that, ‘Oh maybe you should strip Sandra of her title … her Oscar.’ I'm like, ‘For what?’,” Aaron said in an interview with Fox News Digital.
There's nothing that says she had anything to do with this. She was an actress who got hired to do a job, and she did it so well that she was rewarded for it.”

Bach owners 0, Locals win - finally.
Posted by: Lilith7 - 18-08-2023, 12:11 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (3)

After 30 years, locals have now finally had a win. The court ruled that bach owners  (Preserve Dory park domain group) will not get a judicial review.

"A 30-year battle over a Coromandel skate park between locals and bach owners that involved “dirty tricks”, “bribery” and accusations of nimbyism has reached its conclusion in court.
The community and waterfront property owners had been pitted against each other over a skate park in Tairua’s Cory Park Domain, near the estuary.

A High Court judge has this week dismissed the request for a judicial review, mounted by Preserve Cory Park Domain Inc. This group, many of whom were from Auckland, opposed the park for its proximity to houses, potential noise, anti-social behaviour and sanitary fears about toileting.
It was a last-ditch bid to stop the skate park to block the project, with legal wrangling meaning costs have blown up to more than a million dollars.
There’s been plenty of skulduggery in the battle.
Stuff revealed in June how an Auckland rugby club encouraged members to stack a community survey with opposition to the park to help out a benefactor with a holiday home in Tairua who opposes the facility.

The community was “ecstatic” over the ruling, said Gage-Brown.

We are ecstatic and fair to say, so is the Tairua community. This is a long anticipated project that will finally come to fruition. The perseverance and effort to get this across the line with the reward being a skate park for our community."
