Opinions re: Flick Electric as a Supplier
Posted by: jackford - 17-08-2023, 06:33 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (14)

Currently with Powershop [ Nov '21] Charges are Off peak 27.21 c/KWH, peak 37.96 c/KWH. Daily Charge 103.5. Usuage graph shows as 17% peak usage.
We don't purchase Special Packs.

Been quoted Flick rates as 20.99 c/KWH, Daily charge @ 90 c/Day. Not sure if that  is GST Incl.

On costings seems a no brainer, however Flick google reviews aren't that encouraging.
If anone has or is a customer of Flick would appreciate their feedback.

Thanks    Wink

  Power grid Sabotuer
Posted by: Lilith7 - 16-08-2023, 04:51 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (3)

Interesting; this bloke considers himself a political prisoner apparently. He has a rather odd background & is an anti vaccer who tried to bring down the national power grid.

on by Auckland University Law Lecturer Fuimaono Dylan A
s"New Zealand's first and only convicted saboteur, who attempted to bring down the country's national power grid to cause mass disruption, will remain behind bars.
A psychological assessment found Graham Philip still poses a "reasonable risk" of undertaking further disruptive action to garner attention for his cause, and the Parole Board has ruled he should remain in prison.
Philip, a 63-year-old former IT professional from Taupō, appeared before the board nearly three weeks ago seeking release from Tongariro Prison. He has been held in custody since he was first arrested in the days after his attack in December 2021.
Details of Philip's offending are subject to a permanent suppression order, although it can be reported his attack was against Transpower infrastructure and resulted in a fire, causing $1.25 million in damage.
Philip's goal was to cause mass disruption to the New Zealand population to draw attention to the government's Covid-19 response, which he felt was harming people.

"There is no evidence Mr Philip has ever taken into consideration that vulnerable members of the public and agencies/hospitals etc are dependent upon uninterrupted power supply. Mr Philip believes his offending was the result of a 'rational thought process'."

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/4799...ham-philip

piniHis conviction in his beliefs saw him turn into an almost fulltime campaigner. He had hundreds of followers online, with his postings garnering significant traction within Aotearoa's conspiracy and "doomsday prepper" circles.
The 62-year-old's lead supporters created hype around him and convinced others he was innocent.
In 1988, his brother David was tried after being alleged to have killed Kyung Eup Lee, a South Korean fisherman, at the Melbourne Railway Station. He was sprung after a letter he wrote saying he had "done in a Korean" was intercepted by New Zealand authorities.
Philip, still in London, flew to Melbourne weeks later to visit his brother.
He arrived to discover it had been alleged David also cooked the man's body parts in a wok and displayed Lee's severed penis in the station's female bathrooms.
David was later found not guilty by reason of insanity and remains in a mental health institution today. Philip was convinced the murder occurred as a result of childhood trauma.
"I became a Christian when I was 19 and Jesus Christ has healed me of all that. Otherwise, I'd be just like David," he wrote."

  Lauren Dickason found guilty
Posted by: Lilith7 - 16-08-2023, 04:37 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (14)

She's been found guilty of murdering her three children.
In all honesty, if I'd been on that jury I really don't think I could have gone with the guilty verdict given her mental illness. She seems to have been very fragile & possibly moving here increased the stress.
Poor woman, poor family.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/4959...-daughters

It was agreed Dickason killed her daughters and attempted her own death that night - and was mentally unwell when it happened.
But the expert witnesses, who spent hours assessing Dickason, clashed over whether she was clouded with a depressive episode or postpartum depression.

Those supporting the defence case believed Dickason had never got over a decade-long fertility journey that involved a still-birth and postpartum depression. She had also become delusional at the time of killing her children, they said.
Hatters-Friedman told the court Dickason killed her children "out of love".

"Mothers who are suicidal are also at risk for infanticide. Such women may plan a so-called extended suicide with the altruistic belief that their infant is better off in heaven with their mother than remaining alive and motherless, in what the depressed mother sees as a cruel and uncaring world," she said.
"Killing her children seemed right... she noted the world was gripped by the Covid pandemic, that everyone was wrapped up in cellphones and she was concerned about the future and all the worries ahead of her," Dr Justin Barry-Walsh told the court.
"She considered her children would be better off dead."

  Trump indicted

He's charged with atempting to overturn his election result in Georgia in 2020.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-66505804

"Former US President Donald Trump has been charged with attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state of Georgia.
He and 18 others have been indicted on counts that include racketeering in a 41-count indictment issued by a Fulton County grand jury.
The indictment marks the fourth time Mr Trump has been criminally charged this year.
He has denied the accusations in all cases.

Mr Trump, currently the frontrunner in the Republican Party's race to pick its next candidate for the White House, said the investigation by Ms Willis, a Democrat, was politically motivated.
In a statement, the Trump campaign described the district attorney as a "rabid partisan" who had filed "these bogus indictments" to interfere with the 2024 presidential race and "damage the dominant Trump campaign".

  ACT pledge 'racist & inhumane'
Posted by: Lilith7 - 14-08-2023, 03:25 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (24)

ACT have pledged to abolish cultural reports provided to judges. A law lecturer says this is  racist & devoid of compassion & humanity.

It would be damned near miraculous if our political parties were to acknowlege the reality that harsh penalties don't always bring about the change in criminal behaviour they like to claim & instead, actually looked at what works, rather than than vote catching by appealing to the 'lock em up brigade'.

https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/other/act...8b446&ei=8

"Act’s pledge to abolish cultural reports is racist and devoid of compassion and humanity. Cultural reports are designed to provide judges with important detail and context about a person who has committed a crime, and any events or issues that may have contributed to their offending.

Act is claiming that cultural reports are being used to “favour criminals and go soft on victims”, that they are a misuse of public funds and that scrapping them will “make our country safer and ensure that sentencing is appropriate to the crime”.

But these claims have no basis in evidence and reality.
Lecturer Fuimaono Dylan Asafo•3h
pinion by Auckland University Law Lecturer Fuimaono Dylan Asaf
It is clear that Act has not researched cultural reports, but that they are taking figures and statistics out of context and exploiting recent tragedies for their own political gain.
The reality is that these cultural reports (which National also wants to cut funding for) are one of the few ways that our criminal legal system can show compassion and humanity. They not only allow judges to do their jobs reliably and accurately by seeing crimes and the people who commit them in context.
They also allow judges to more deeply consider why someone has come to the moment they are in as they stand before the court. These reports enable judges to understand more about a person, their life and background, rather than simply the details of their offence.
Unlike Act, there are many experts in the criminal legal system who have carefully studied how cultural reports work. These experts have told us time and time again that these reports are essential to keep communities safe and create a fair and equal society for all.

Another experienced lawyer, Russell Fairbrother, has stated that cultural reports bring a “natural humanity” to the system and that anybody with a sense of decency, would want someone being sentenced to have their background considered.
You’ve got to be able to understand why someone responds in the way that they respond...because you can’t address the problem until you identify it and then find a way out,” says Fairbrother."

Its dificult to comprehend that any political party can be so willfully ignorant. There are any number of various reports & studies which show  that harsh methods do not work well, & can instead have the effect of creating lifelong criminals - which virtually no one wants.

  Greens' subsidies on solar
Posted by: harm_less - 13-08-2023, 06:30 PM - Forum: Opinion and Politics - Replies (23)

Finally a political party has seen the light (pun intended) and intends to incentivise the uptake of domestic PV solar uptake. We have seen EVs subsidised over the past few years by way of the Clean Car Discount system but as EV numbers grow we have seen little to support the added electricity demands of charging those vehicles on both a household and grid capacity basis.

Apart from the financial benefit to individuals, including landlords, in adding a few PV panels to their dwellings the environmental advantage of removing demand from our grid which is presently contributed to with thermal generation overall this is a well balanced policy.

  Maui fires
Posted by: Lilith7 - 13-08-2023, 03:20 PM - Forum: News and Current Affairs - Replies (12)

So far at least 89 people are known to have died but may well be more.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-66489815

Additional expert support has been deployed to Hawaii, where forensic work is continuing to find victims of the devastating wildfires.
At least 89 people are known to have died but there are fears this number will rise further, with hundreds still unaccounted for.
Many more remain in emergency shelters after fleeing from the flames.
Firefighting efforts are continuing in parts of the island of Maui, including around the devastated town of Lahaina.
Mr Greenberg added that while close to 1,000 people are still yet to be contacted, some of these may be safe but out of reach for a number of reasons.
Hawaii Governor Josh Green visited Maui on Saturday and told reporters he was expecting to see "significantly higher numbers" of fatalities in the coming days.
"It will certainly be the worst natural disaster Hawaii ever faced," he said.
"It may be the worst fire that America ever faced."

The main road to Lahaina was briefly re-opened to residents on Saturday, before quickly being closed again.
The Kahakuloa road is open, but locals say it's far too dangerous to attempt to drive that way. The road - known simply here as "the backroad" to Lahaina - is barely wide enough for one car, has many hair-pin turns, and a steep drop-off.
Residents are furious about the decision to keep the main road closed to the potentially homeless survivors.
Hundreds who fled with proof of their residency are waiting in traffic, hopeful that they will be allowed through. But with the queue of cars stretching for about a mile, and news that the road has shut once again, they don't know whether they'll be forced to turn around.

Liz Germansky, who lost her home in the fire, is angry about the response. "The government's getting in the way of people helping," she says, while sat in the same traffic queue.
