Good morning.

Gorgeous day already. Sunscreen will be needed if outside!

A bit slower this morning after a steep bush walk yesterday,  at least mostly in the shade. Lemon cake went down well afterwards at son and DIL 2B's  Smile  It will be a sensible idea to stay off the road today though! A lot of people out and about taking advantage of the lovely weekend weather.

You are a good friend OHH. It was a difficult time going through my brother and a SIL's untimely, terminal illnesses but they were lucky to have their close family deal with the "nitty gritty" side of things.

My cup is empty and  the apricots I have soaking have had long enough to bake a loaf.

Enjoy the day all.
Morning everyone

Another stunner out there.

I wasn't allowed a driving lesson from my stepfather until I could change the Tyre etc. I thank him so much for that. Yeah it's hard for them to admit they can't do things like they used to.. I do try and pick MP's mind tho especially when it comes to painting etc.

I asked him yesterday about a mirror I picked up somewhere along the way, asked would I have to completely strip it to repaint it white again.. Then when we were talking I realized the paint is at the back of some shelves so it won't happen for a little while lol.

I nearly rang the ambulance last night. The pain is soo bad. But all they could do is give me more pain relief then I have the problem of getting home and it wasn't worth the hassles. Im going to have to up the meds and try and stay off it.

Say she who is going up to see everyone today. Otherwise Ill never hear the end of it. And I need bananas for my breakie.

No one interested in the drawers yesterday. but thats ok. They will go in the garage sale anyway.

Have a fab day everyone
lol snap, Roma. I baked an apricot loaf this morning too. Love the Edmunds recipe.

MrK and I (me, probably more hindrance than help lol) put the final two wires up along the fence for the roses. Now I need to shred an old t shirt for some soft ties to tie the roses back up again. Buff Beauty will need another year to reach the bottom wire, but I knew she was a slow starter when I bought her. And having the fencer dig around her will slow her even more. Her roses are worth the wait though.

Try FB market place for the draws, Popeye. It's free and it seems loads of people use it now.

Back to the kotare/kingfisher for me. I've spent a happy hour or so working on the second wing and not even half way lol.
You are all very kind, but I don't think it is about friendship, I think it is more about the duty we have to support each other at times of real need. When people have limited family support for whatever reason we might have a duty to step in to help where we can. It is a voluntary role, and more I think about trust than friendship. In fact, it might be that not being close friends makes it easier to manage, the level of grief is not the same.

I am relying on someone to act as my point of first contact for emergencies, that same person will do the necessary if I die suddenly, and it is a major role, as anyone who has done it will know, often frustrating and worrying. But it is a necessary one, best arranged in advance if we want to have any control over what happens to us and our stuff in that final act. So it seemed only fair, that when asked, I said yes to doing it for someone else. Paying it forward perhaps...
I took my slightly too tight Skechers left shoe out of the freezer this morning, having popped a freezer bag full of water into the toe box yesterday. Slipped the very chilly shoe on and woo hoo! It worked! Just such a teeny adjustment and no blisters over the past two hours.

What an excellent trick...
Very windy here so not keen to do much more outside apart from a bit more ivy cleared. Have been putting tomato plants outside each day to get them used to outdoors but brought them in again out of the howling gale, in case they end up in Hokitika.

I was hoovering earlier on & wondered why there was a clean piece of newspaper on the floor...& then it dawned on me - it was the paper I'd put there to empty the hoover on before starting.
Oh. Bugger.
Never mind, it made me laugh at my own daftness.

My flat is chaos. I brought up the storage bins from under the deck, one by one, to sort and get rid. Musty stuff after ten years in plastic bins under a disintegrating tarp... Found my assessments from TLC, on tape fcs, heaps of half prepped art stuff, a dozen handmade teddy bears (I went through that phase) and all the documents from a long association with ACC.

No wonder I have been procrastinating that job...

I'm hoping that I've now got all my TLC stuff sorted & in one place, & all my D & A college stuff sorted & in one place, ready for a  final 'go through & be utterly ruthless' sort out later in the summer.
But...the other day, I think I glimpsed more of it in a completely different place; it might not be it might just be a wrongly labelled box. She said very hopefully, not actually having been game enough to open the box. Rolleyes Confused
I did find my Mother's best scissors under the Christmas decorations. My last Christmas must be fifteen years ago...
morning ladies Smile Looks like rain is on the way.

Amazing what we have stashed away, isn't it, OHH. The scissors were a good find!

lol, Lilith. You just had a bit more to empty from the vacum cleaner, that's all lol. It was your cunning plan all along Tongue

The azaleas look like they have survived the move from one side of the garden to the other. Phew. I didn't want to have to replace them if they curled their toes up.

Looking out the kitchen window as my toast was cooking and there's a dead, headless rabbit on the grass. The Furry One went hunting last night and caught the biggest one. No breakfast needed from us this morning. He's changed his tactic to catch them as they were becoming too cunning to catch during the day. Can't say I'm sorry to see that one gone. My phlox should be at least knee height by now and is barely a nub in the ground.

I see King Charles' favourite dog breed is a JR Big Grin Big Grin He has good taste in dogs lol.

This morning I'm taking our friend back to Waikato hosp for another appointment. An early start again but at least being one of the first in means there is no waiting time. And the rest of the day is freed up. It pays to ask for the early appointments if you can.

Better get cracking, it's a 7.30am pick up Smile

Happy crafting Smile
Was 25oC yesterday and might get to 15 today. It’s drizzly rain at the moment, hope it doesn’t get any harder in the next ½ hour as would like to be be able to walk to mainly music - only takes 15 minutes but enough time to get rather wet if it decides to pour down  Smile

Need to get more potting mix this pm for my baby tomatoes, potted out some on Sunday but more ready now, there’s too many just for me so am hoping they can find new homes with friends.
Morning everyone

A bit gloomy here but no rain so far.

Would anyone like to share their apricot loaf recipes.. I love apricots.

Nearly had a very short visit with MrP, he snapped and I asked did he want me to leave. and he settled down.

As I was leaving one of the nurses asked me how my bruise was so I lifted the back of my skirt and showed her and the nurse she was walking with. As I have matching legs now. The nurse told me to come straight home and elevate both legs. Which I did. Helped a little with the pain. And I'll make every effort to do the same. Its good having access to medical people without paying lol.

I do want to empty 3 little drawers and I can do that quickly as a small diversion from my En-suite lol

I forgot to put the recycling out last night dammit.. so it will have to be shoved down further lol.

Safe trip Kiwimade.

Have a fab day all
Good morning.

Overcast and I believe rain on the cards. It was great weather for Labour Weekend at least.

Catch up day around the house, with a bit of luck won't need to water the garden today. We have been enjoying the first lot of stewed rhubarb which has been nice to have on breakfast cereal .... very dark pink in colour, lol. The layer of compost we added has made such a difference to what is now coming out of my vege garden  Smile

Popeye the recipe I use is from the Edmonds Cookbook. Substitute the dates for apricots:

https://edmondscooking.co.nz/recipes/cakes/date-loaf/

I never use a cup of sugar stated in recipes usually 1/2 - 3/4C

Better see if I can get the washing dry on the line.

Enjoy the day all.
Wondering if anyone in here has purchased through Mighty Ape? Are they considered to be reliable?
What a traffic mess on Cobham Drive this morning. All I can say is I'm dam glad I don't have to be part of that rush every morning.

That's the recipe I use as well, roma and I also cut the brown sugar back to around 3/4 of a cup. And I add mixed spice to the flour.

Washing is dry in spite of no sunshine but there is the easterly wind. Better bring it in before I decide what's for lunch.

We regularly buy presents for grandchildren through Mighty Ape, and they have been fine.
Afternoon all
Spits of moisture and a bit chilly.

DH and I went local mall to start some Xmas shopping. I like to have a list dive in and out quickly. He was along for the ride as he says I always come up with good ideas his excuse for not planning he would be rushing about on the 24th December  I hate crowds DGS treasure chest contents is complete.

After I finish my lu ch it is down to the cave to do a bit more quilting, hopefully it will be completed today.

Thanks for the idea subbing apricots in date loaf recipe I will be giving that a go for sure.
Wow both sets of drawers are gone and they are coming back for my dressing table on Thursday.

MrP isn't happy but I pointed out it has to happen and I won't be capable of moving furniture about when Im 80 lol.

And if need be Ill point out Im the one paying the rent here and I need to downsize before I can move.

It's amazing what junk you find in drawers lol.. I actually have all my underwear in one of the bedside tables lol
I've used Mighty Ape quite a bit, Roma & had no problems - well, except for the time I'd bought something & forgotten to put money into the account for the debit card! They were really good about it, too. Smile

Did the dreaded groceries earlier & have managed a bit more ivy murder in the garden, then found one or two more bits & pieces online for Xmas gifts, so not a bad day.
morning ladies Smile Here comes the rain! MrK was watering the vegie plants yesterday so rain is well overdue.

Great news that the furniture is gone, popeye. And yep, what we keep in the back of the draw is amazing lol. I wonder why we keep it.

Go Lilith! That ivy will be gone before you know it. We are a stubborn group of women, that's for sure lol. When something needs to be done, we do it. Even if it takes us a while.

Grocery shopping is on the agenda today and I need a new pair of gardening gloves. I have worn out two more leather pairs thanks to the concrete edging. I would rather wear them out than my fingers though. The gloves I buy are lovely and soft and supple and I can easily grab a rose without thorns jabbing me. Bunnings sell them so it means a trip to Hamilton as the Cambridge Bunnings was closed a while back. I didn't like to do it while in Hamilton yesterday with our friend as that is 'his' day and he often wants to do some of his own shopping while we are out and about. And I'm driving his car and feel guilty about using it for our stuff.

My sister is visiting again this afternoon while her camper van has it's WoF which means another day of no stitching. I really need to get this wing done.

Happy crafting Smile
