Good morning - chilly here - hope zqwerty your best friend is on the improve
This photo is my sisters beautiful German shepherd - post cyclone - he spent three days and nights with her in the ceiling of a local Marae as the flood surrounded them and this is what stress has done to him - they haven’t been able to return to his home as it was so badly damaged - her garage sleepout miraculously survived but was looted .The vet is very pleased with his progress his coat has started to grow back but he is a shell of his former self - sad

I don't think it is overstating things to acknowledge that there are times when our companion animals save our lives.
On the subject of companion animals - apparently the spirit of Sarah Bernhardt lives. On my way to the clothes line earlier I accidentally stepped on the very edge of Madame Le Dog's foot; NOT my full weight as it just slid off the edge of her paw.

But going by the yelp she let out anyone would have thought I'd stepped on her whole foot with all of my foot. And she just sat there so I enquired whether this was the part where she pretended the human had injured the poor harmless dog so that she was completely unable to walk...which got me one of her looks.

She might still be there but alas for her, a granddaughter called in & suddenly the paw was miraculously healed & Madame Le Dog was able to leap & bound & bark again.
Bloody dog. Smile

Oh Lilith that did make me giggle lol.

While I was with my ladies, another Visitor David, had his Chocolate lab crossed with a huntaway girl Bella with him. Such a Beautiful big girl. I got lots of cuddles. And she got lots of veges that weren't eaten from our Table.

My girl cat before Missy was Millie. She put herself to bed once, requiring a box to get up on the bed. Cos she told me she couldn't make it normally. She didn't move herself for most of the day so I rang the vets and made an appointment. Checked her over and found the tiniest of a cut, 4mm max under her right arm I think it was. Such a tiny wound, but she certainly had me running around. Next morning she was out chasing the birds again so I cancelled the appointment.

they know how to throw the Guilt at us lol

Bwahaha! Bloody drama queens the pair of them!  Big Grin Big Grin
morning ladies Smile Another beaut frost this morning Big Grin

hahaha Lilith, they know how to pile on the guilt! Love it lol

We took the Furry One to Raglan yesterday. It was a spur of the moment thing, packed our lunch and decided to go. He loved the walks and spent most of the time sniffing all the smells. Met some new dogs and was very polite (for a change) and loved the beach. Pity it rained as we were having lunch but oh well, it didn't matter. We arrived home and five minutes later our friend arrived to give us a quote for the heavier and taller gardening that needs doing. Good timing Big Grin

I hope you celebrated the removal of the portaloo with a good wine, OHH Big Grin They should have been paying rent, leaving it there for so long.

Once the bin man has been, I'll clean up all the rose prunings that wouldn't fit in the bin and when the frost lifts, give the lawn a quick once over with the mower as MrK needs a good catcher load of clippings in the compost bin. It will also tidy up the last of the dropped leaves Tongue Hopefully I can also finish pruning the last three roses as well.

The Field Days start tomorrow so there will be loads more traffic on the roads over the next few days. I wonder if they are going to control the traffic coming off SH29 onto SH1 or let it all bottleneck up like they usually do.

Happy crafting Smile
Morning all
A other nice day.

Got to love our drama llama four legged companions Heart

Early start this  morning as we were preparing to have DGD1 for the day but she has gone to daycare so now I have no excuse not to do the food hunt.

Not sure what I will get up to today have a document to review , 2 books calling to me and many sewing/quilting projects waiting to be started. Might not get anything done and go out and about.

Enjoy your day
Blimmen heck that frost is cold lol. One wheelbarrow full of rose prunings into the bin though but my fingers are numb lol. Hopefully typing here will thaw them out Tongue We have a new bin man, well, a lad really who looks like he is straight out of school Big Grin The older guy drives and the young lad does the emptying. Might as well make use of the young bones Tongue and besides, our older binman has done his time.
No frost here, mind you I haven't seen a decent one for years, climate change and living in a city means we rarely get that low a temp. Just as well, I have become a hothouse flower as I got older. I blame Christmas in Edinburgh in the 60s, boy was that a shock to a little kiwi girl.

The kitchen declutter is going well, so well I have started a second rubbish bag and another discard bag for the Sallies. Some of those tools in the bottom cupboard haven't been used since I came here, so someone else can have the benefit of them. Besides, I can't bend and stretch that far to reach the things easily so why would I... I did enjoy emptying the collection of dvds in one of the sit down moments though, I had forgotten I own every disc ever made of the Stargate saga. I must rewatch it for the sheer escapism of it. And Firefly...
Morning everyone,

A slow start on my day off. The sun is out.

One of our craziest animals was a budgie. who used to always go with us if we went away. But woe betide if you didn't buckle his cage in. He would make such a racket. And he always seemed to sense when we were getting back to Taranaki and announce he could see the mountain.

Another was a cockatiel who was downright cheeky. He could see me out hanging washing out, and "ring" the phone. So I would have to run inside. And that was when we brought our first cordless. Ratbag couldn't fool me anymore lol

Raglan is a special place for us. But we haven't been for many many years. Need to see how much it has grown.

Only one jerk last night and I slept well which is awesome.

Might get some cutting out done today. Im having more fun sewing than anything else at the mo. MrP liked the materials I got.

Did anyone watch the show on tv one last night about the prison in England. Im not sure if it is a series or not. I am always interested in the crime/prison type stuff. And the prisoner's have their own Justice to others especially child rapists and murders etc.

Have a fab day all
I did, and was suitably horrified by the cruelty of it. I know prison is supposed to be a punishment, but those in charge of that system should be ashamed of their inhumanity in allowing people to be treated like that. Solitary for 40 plus years? That is torture, pure and simple. There are better ways, they just are unwilling to spend the money on using them.
Chilly start here as well but a beautiful blue sky - I finally finished darning the ends in of the blanket - the new owner thought it was epic - no doubt the Labrador pup will share it - it’s acrylic so can be washed

Took the photo before I blocked it so it’s still a bit frilly

Epic certainly describes  the blanket fabulous piece of work
Time for a cuppa! We saw that prison programme, popeye, and couldn't believe prisoners were in solitary confinement for 40 plus years. If one of the guys had gotten the help he asked for, things could have been very different.

Wow! just, wow! Jan, epic is the right word to describe it. Your blanket is just gorgeous Heart

I  couldn't watch it & am glad I didn't. They're well aware that prolonged solitary confinement is legally defined as torture & know very well that its use causes mental illness  - yet some prisons continue to use it despite that. America is especially bad at using it throughout their prison system.

The confinement itself is the punishment & anything further is excessive. And they surely must be aware that other methods work far better - Bastoy island for example has been getting excellent results for years, & Norway has the lowest rate of recidivism in Europe.

But perhaps prisons are large employers in other countries & that's all that matters.

They have got so used to me marching up to them and telling them off (complete with finger wagging) that I can now scoop them up and carry them back to the fence for chucking over. Tuk tuk tuk tuk...

I am adding Chicken Wrangler to my CV.

Mobile prisons Big Grin
Those blankets are really WOW JanW - so unique and heirloom material.
They are Stunning Jan.. Absolutely stunning.

One of the prisoners didn't go outside for 4 years, his choice. Very tough conditions, and I dont think that Ex Guard will be getting any slaps on the back for looking so bloody happy about those conditions.

Must have been a hell of a shock for the one whose father spat in the sandwich and told him to get it tested for DNA.

Some very Clever Silly people in those prisons. Im glad some have turned their life around. But equally as glad as the ones who were honest enough to say They would kill again if out.

It must cost the country Billions of dollars over all those years.
Pleased you like the blankets - the pretty one is much bluer than the photo shows - the old boy asked me to make my granddaughters a blanket that looked like the sea - he spent a lot of time with them on the sea or in the sea and my grandson one in his Lindisfarne school colours - so he got two one for his bed at home and one for his school bed - picture below - found the photo of the rabbit made from the scraps
