Frosty start turning into ,overly sunny day.
Wee lie in with a book, DD and family called while out walking their k9. DH has chicken soup on stove for lunch he froze the chicken carcass last time we had roast chicken it smells yummy already
Got merino bodysuit sewn yesterday need to see how it fits before I make DGD2 anymore she is nearly a year old but still small 6mth width but quite long in body, I forgot to measure her body length when she was here last week.
Some housework needs to be done before anything else.

I am doing a Winter clean up, yesterday it was the shower glass getting the treatment, and today I'm cleaning the oven. I am inspired by an old household manual that has a lot of hints that use old fashioned methods, most chemical free. Yesterday's shower s rub was bicarb with dishwash liquid to make a paste. Rubbed on, left for an hour and then rinsed off, and it was very effective. Today's exercise calls for cut lemons in an ovenproof dish with water to cover, in the oven and cooked to boiling point and beyond to really steam up the surfaces. Then the bicarb scrub to get rid of the yukkies. Fortunately my oven isn't excessively well used so with luck it should work nicely with minimal bending and swearing lol.
Must say I am feeling very housewifely...

Didnt take long either.. Mind you the front has grown some but it can wait. The ground is still very wet but the grass was dry enough.
Had a neat morning out.. I discovered the cherries were on special, $5-50 for an 800 gram jar which I thought was Very reasonable. Got the onions for the toasted sammies while I was there. And thankfully I got some sultanas. they didn't have many mind. Must be a shortage. Ill have to downsize my portion a little to make them stretch.
Went to St Andrews, got 3 Tupperware bowls. the larger one to replace the one I have here which is perfect for whipping cream in, but its in a much better condition than my current one. And two more smaller ones, not in great condition but I wanted the lids not the bowls. AND as I felt I had to go there I was VERY lucky to grab another Glass bowl air cooker. Only came into the shop 2 days ago. Cant find them in the shops these days. I like to have a spare cos it saves soo much power. Especially for things like savories, scones, potato bake and toad in the Hole.
Then went to the Junktion, got a Very beautiful I assume satin double bed duvet cover. The pillowcase has a sparkly Princess crown on it, I only took it cos it went with it. And a large Tupperware container with the press on lid.. I think when I got my other one it was around $70 back in the late 90s, so for $10 I wasn't leaving it behind. I think someone has kept their laundry powder in it and that is what Ill be using it for too.
So I might be broke, but Im happy lol
Okay, I need an explanation of the Tupperware glass bowl air cooker...

It was some Tupperware bowls And a glass air cooker. Used to be called turbo ovens. The motor sits on top. Ive probably had 6-7 since they came out in the late 90s..

Baby shower seemed to go on for hours & didn't get back till after 4. Lovely gifts though - there's so much stuff you can get for babies these days most of which we didn't have years ago.
Very nice lunch in a place calling itself The Old Vicarage. Very up to the minute with shades of hideous grey everywhere.
I really dislike have my photo taken; I'm not even slightly photogenic so avoid it when possible as all the grandkids know. Nonetheless i had to be in photos. Twice.
I should have known - when those two particular granddaughters get together, sneaky, devious little sweetie darlings that they are - there isn't anything they can't organise.
Including me, dammit.

There's lots of brands of those, nearly all are junk after a short time. but the good ones - - - -
I bought one as a wedding gift for some friends - he was a chef so it was a tricky sort of gift. Barely 30 years later, it needed repair The thermostat had got a bit erratic, but parts were available at a reasonable price ($7 rings a bell) and so it is close to 40 years old now. put a new cord on at that time. Blowed if I can remember the brand, but it was distinguished by having a distinctive fluted bowl. Cooked better than any other brand I've seen by far, (Maybe a chef at the helm helps?) Durable, and well supported, but it is pretty big if you're space challenged. Not light either.
Smooth bowl models - sometimes OK. but, alas, only a very few brands get as high as mediocre.
Models having metal height extenders? Nope, don't cook at all well, usually short lived and unrepairable (Not that any of the ones I've seen are worth repairing. Once the burnt oil and paint smell fades, they're on the slippery slope even though they never got very high on the value scale. )
If it says "As seen on TV!" walk away. If that's the best that expensive professional flatterers can say about it - - -
I can't remember the brand, but they did emphasise "Australian Family owned and designed" in their commercials. The fluted bowl is prominent and possibly helps the uniformity of cooking and the ease of self-cleaning. A really honest and effective product with many junk imitators.
To assist with longevity, don't put the top unit down flat while hot. The heat (Fierce) from the element even as it cools goes up into the top section and will overheat the motor bearing lubricants and degrade insulation over time. make a simple holder to keep the lid vertical as it sits on the bench - then the malicious heat goes harmlessly up to barbecue your budgie and fricassee your ice-cream.

Morning everyone
Rather Froggy here this morning.. I like the peace that comes with it.
Ive had all sorts of brands R2x1. Im not a fancy cook and they do the job.. Ive never used the metal rings that came with a few. Not needed if your a careful cook. I use a tall hmm 11 cm ish rack to sit the lid on when I take it off. Never burnt anything. Or I sit it on the sink if I dont have the room. I do in this house tho.
Going to do some vacuuming, the end of the house I dont use. Talk to MrP then Ill make a lemon uncooked slice. New recipe.
Then Ill sew his socks in the afternoon. Putting the grippy bits on some compression tubing. I dont miss putting any of his socks on but especially the compression ones, cos they are Witches with arthritic fingers.
Will prep some stuff for Toasted sammies tomorrow.
If it stays fine I might mow the front tomorrow when I get home. depending on the stupid bones lol.

Nippy start cloudy at moment but sun is expected
Sewed up another merino bodysuit yesterday, and sorted through patterns looking for inspiration probably need to look through my fabric. Might do some merino singlets charity sew while I am undecided.
Finished my audio book yesterday need to find something new. If you want a light hearted murder mystery Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series is worth a shot. Best read in sequence.
DD loaned my car yesterday to get to hockey so DSIL had their car while entertaining DGD1. She returned it and had helping of our left over savoury mince so now we need to decide whats for dinner tonight lol. Kids !. We are lucky ours live nearby and pop in znd out.
Coffee finished so kitchen needs surfaces wiped.

A late start for me here this morning even though I've been up for hours.
Yesterday it was such a gorgeous day we packed up our lunch, filled the thermos with hot water, dug out the picnic basket and headed over the hill to Mt Maunganuni for a picnic lunch. A bit of a wander on the beach (tide was coming in) and we trotted home. It was a stunning day there yesterday and the new footpath along Ocean View Rd is awesome. Can't wait for it to be finished. Lovely and wide for all to use.
We cheered our Silver Ferns on last evening, what a game! I told MrK to watch the Ugandan girls as they tend to get a bit pushy and bolshy when playing and sure enough, their GK was warned several time for grabbing. Spotted a few elbows and shoves too. But our girls kept persevering and won by 10 goals. I think our girls were a lot fitter which helped. And then to top it off the All Blacks won their game. Now for our Football Ferns to complete the trio
this evening.

so I think I'll try my luck with hanging the washing out. The lawn doesn't need mowing until next week so it can hopefully dry out a bit too.

We have a sun shiny day after a cool start but not a frost today!
A lot of people making the most of the weather on the beach yesterday KM ... we saw people and dogs up and down, both ways. The beach front cycle/people path sure is an asset especially being built wide enough for all. We checked it out a week or so ago
I have never seen one of those cookers before Popeye. Imagine having enough bench space to house every cooking device/appliance known
I have a little 3 ply baby jacket on the go for niece's newborn expected soon having finished the cross stitch. It will be finished in a few days.
Time to get outside and make the most of the day.

Mica - do you buy Merino by the metre - I am thinking that would be a perfect backing for my Dr Seuss - I don’t usually back them but this is acrylic and unlike wool the colour change ends are not as stable especially the silver - had a look online and the price’s fluctuate - do you have a recommendation - it’s going to be 153x153
My houseworking bug continues and my tiny flat is disintegrating around my ears, what a mess, lol. But it has to come apart before it can be sorted and put back together all neat'n tidy. And decluttered.
And that TM buyer with a habit of not going through with trades has not been in touch. Grrrr...

Recently invested in an air fryer oven as putting on the main oven for just a few things is not the most efficient use of power.
I’m Am still experimenting with it and had some really good roast veg the other night using the air fryer function. It’s a long time since I had roasted veges for just one person. Yesterday I made a variation of seed crackers using the oven function and once again they turned out well.

Have told MrP about his sister in law dying. Notably upset. And he asked me to let his big brother know. So Ive done that and a couple of neices.
Sad thing is that I should have been told. Today is also 6 years since their only sister died. So not a good day really.
I have the sewing to do now. before the niece rings. Then I can do the hand sewing later.

JanW I purchase my merino by the metre. The main sources for me are The Fabric Store ZQ is really nice washes well I try and wait for their sales, the other source is For Fabric Sake, while I do visit these businesses most of my interactions are on line. Backstreet Bargins always worth a look too.
A wool flannel / brushed wool might work too as they are wovens might provide some stability. Backstreet usually have brushed wool blend fabrics.
