Bit of a sore point for me. I have watched too many women I loved go into those places as well fed women only to almost starve to death. And be helpless to do anything about it.

A sore point for me too Hunni.   My greatest dread as I get old is that one day I won't be able to cook for myself.   I'm really careful about what I eat, I enjoy cooking and make almost everything from scratch.   If I still have my marbles but have to eat bulk catering rubbish I think I will fade away very quickly.

I read a few years ago about a small chain of rest homes somewhere in the UK that made a point of serving fresh high quality food, and the health of their inmates was measurably better than that of their contemporaries who had to eat the  ultra-processed junk that serves as food in most institutions.   The extra cost wasn't huge and I imagine the reduced medical costs would easily cancel out the expense.

I totally agree Olive.

You only get out what you put in. The only ones that would think of the food ad being yummy, are those that perhaps have lived on their own and don't bother cooking. So something else might look good. MrP lost 20 kilos within a few months. That shows you how crappy the food is.

Im soo bloody thankful I have an Out. I wont have to go into a home than God !!!

Perhaps we need a new law - all those who own rest homes or work in the food preparation for rest homes should be required to eat exactly the same diet as is served in their homes..

Not only the cook. but the manager should too. Both David and I have asked the manager if she would eat it and been told, I've eaten it in the past. Or Well I've eaten so couldn't fit it in right now. Shes so up herself that she wouldn't dare eat it.
She wouldn't lower herself to do so that's for sure.

Excellent we can add managers then ...in my benevolent dictatorship! Rolleyes
Morning everyone

Another arghhh day out there weatherwise.

A big day today. Off to see MrP with a supermarket full of food. he was moaning on the weekend. So Chips, tatties, steamed pudding, marshmallow shortcake and vanilla biscuits.

Then off to the other Home. I managed to speak to Bobbie last night and it sounds like she is negative again so she will be at the Birthday lunch. Diannes Hubby and her sister are both coming along too, as sisters they are totally different. But Im sure its going to be a long good day.

I know for sure that Management wouldnt turn up and wish her happy birthday. She volunteers to do the painting class. So it would be nice if they could take the time to wish her well.

So very early start.. And the rain to chase with the walker and a load of stuff to take in.

Have a fab day everyone
morning ladies Smile I briefly saw the sun this morning, maybe there is hope for us yet lol.

I remember Dad saying the food in the resthome (he was there for respite care) was crap... his words lol. He booked himself out because of it, so much for our respite care.

This morning I plan to do more weeding, that convolvulus doesn't stop and thanks to the rain, is growing at a huge pace. I might have to resort to tangling it onto a stick, putting a board behind it and spraying it with weedkiller. I saw this trick on a British gardening programme years ago.

The recycling needs to be taken to the transfer station and while in town, the car needs petrol, and the petrol can has to be filled for the mower.

When the rain kicks in again today, I'll work a bit more on the thrush's body and fill in those gaps.

happy crafting Smile
I came home from the hospital with a long incision stabled together. And no staple remover. So we tested the take it out with two forceps procedure, and the screaming started, lol. Today I have an appointment with the Nurse from Hell and was determined not to go through that experience again when out of the blue I got a brainwave. Who would have a surgical staple remover?

A VET!

And just to round this little story off nicely, my vet is a lovely man, and married to my doctor. He is going to have such fun with this story, lol.

All in all isn't a doctor just a vet who specialises in only one species? Hope your vet visit goes well for you Smile
lol I love it, OHH! I can just hear the dinner conversation now between your vet and doctor lol. 'You know that crazy old woman... '' "yep, I know EXACTLY who you mean..." "well, you won't need to remove her staples, I've done it for you!''

It's so easy weeding after all this rain, I don't need to hoe and only have to dig a couple of aquilegias (bossy tarts) out of the way to let other plants grow.

Time for a cuppa then I'll take the recycling in.
Morning all

If only you could be a fly on their wall... although, I suspect KM has it right. Rolleyes Big Grin
But, chapter two... Nurse FromHell tells me she never suggested they didn't have staple removers, she just wanted the free one from the hospital.

I am still steaming. Bitch.

Remember the days when patients were the priority? Not the budget?

Why yes - I AM that old! Rolleyes Big Grin

She sounds just delightful. Or something.... Dodgy
Now Hunni I think that is Brilliant.. lol.

I do think Km has it summed up well tho.

And yep the district nurses dont get what they should, but they shouldn't be using patients to get it either.

There's a nurse from hell where MrP is. She seems to like telling me to do things and I simply carry on doing what I want. She tried to tell me just to ring MrP directly rather than ringing and asking if he is awake, (Night time call) and I explained.. yeah I could do that. But if he is asleep and I wake him, its you lot that will have to put up with the grumpy man.. I do it for you.. She pulled her head in .

We have had an absolute Fantastic party for Lunch. We were all there. Bobbie is finally negative, ( mind you she says she never had covid). We made toasted sammies. And I took the marsh mellow shortcake and ginger crunch. David took the Cake. There was 9 of us. We did photos too which was good. And Hugs all around.

Found out that the "toad".. Young Peter, when he went for his Long walk he didnt take a walker. And he walked the long way around town. Im going to trip it out But from memory I think its about 3km. He fell a couple of times. No Shame but he was a bit beaten up. But he loves it when I call him a "Toad" and it was cool he could be with us again today. Sent him off with some goodies. David put some on his plate and I topped it up lol.

Turns out we have Davids partner on December 6th, so us girls have made a plan for his birthday. He is on mushed up food so Im going to make two chocolate cakes, one with cream and strawberries and one with Icing. For those who cant have cream. Then we will do eggs one day and Then Christmas.

Actually it might be a bit busy so maybe eggs and birthday would be better lol.

Dianne loved that I got my heart valve on her birthday long before we knew each other.
morning ladies Smile We have sunshine but not for long. Lots of weeding was done yesterday, just a small area to do now.

MrK has his eye clinic appointment today. It will be interesting to see how they can improve his sight after the stuff up the cataract op. That's assuming they can.

Supermarket shopping today as well. MrK has asked me to make Christmas mince pies this year. I haven't bothered for years but they will be back on the menu this Christmas. I've added extra dried fruit to the shopping list.

Happy crafting Smile
Morning everyone

Sunny and clear here. Very still the wind has gone

Fingers crossed the eye can be helped in some way Kiwimade.

A quiet day for me today. I had soo much cramp when I got home yesterday, down the top and around the outer ankles on both feet. Thank goodness for tile floors and frozen peas lol.

Im looking forward to my fruit mince pies. They have been tucked away nicely in the freezer. I use Alison Holst's recipe for pastry and a cooked fruit mince which has grated granny smith apples in it. Its super Yummy. And I only have the pastry thick enough to hold the fruit.
My sister in law's are horrible. Thick pastry with half a teaspoon of fruit. lol

Have a fab day everyone
Morning all
Misty start here no doubt it will burn off.

Hope they can sort out MrK eyesight KM

My fruit mince is marinating nicely in the fridge..  I have  a good gluten free pastry recipe and have couple of batches sitting in the freezer.
Drafted a dress for me yesterday and cut out a toille  to check the fit before I cut into the good stuff.

Hard day for me today its  time for our girl k9 to travel the rainbow bridge such a tough decision  DD came to say good bye yesterday.

Have a good day
Oh Mica, such a hard decision. but for your loved one its the best one you can make.

Be gentle with yourself.
