My Mum was the secretary of the Euthanasia Society in the South Island for years.

The vote was almost passed last election wasn't it? It's the religious power blocks that hold it back, also the police I think.

Too many limitations and restrictions. Too much suffering remains compulsory.

Its legal but hedged around with conditions which must be met - thanks to the religious brigade. Which is extemely unfair imo since in practice what that means is that they're perfecty fine with people suffering as long as they meet the conditions in their belief system & never mind what those doing the suffering believe.

Did the groceries & took Mme Le Dog for a walk & then wrapped up the birthday gifts for the final birthday before Xmas. Thought I might as well keep going so did a few of the larger Xmas gifts while I was at it, then a bit more on the Xmas paintings for the wee ones. Not doing much else today.

I think it did pass, zqwerty, but there are lots of hoops to jump through of course.

They don't know what is wrong with MrK's eye and he has more drops to use. We go back on the 3rd Jan and they make another decision about it.

I too did the front , to the back of the sewing room lawn. Shaved another 15 minutes off Woohooo.

And I feel quite well actually. So Im chuffed.

I was looking forward to my dinner so much that It was cooked bang on 5pm, and very yummy.

My groceries arrived and whoever selected did a great job on the vegies. So I made salad for dinner, with avo. So yummy. Summer food.

And I did housework, it took me all day but it got done. Definitely coming right, so tomorrow I am going to library, and coffee and cake at my favourite cafe. And register at a new practice.

And I bought myself a late birthday present - two of Bunnings raised gardens, perfect to transition my potted garden to with a view to my increased decrepitude. Will sort them out slowly over the summer and recycle my potted garden into them for the winter months. I think I can rig a canopy too, for my cheapskate ripoff vegepod lookalikes, lol.

Oh! And the two white cloud minnows I was given have had babies. No idea if they will survive, but it was a delight to see the teeny things in the tank!

I've just been outside deadheading the roses after all the rain.   They've thrived in it, despite a few soggy blossoms, and Country Maid is the best she's ever been, after sulking so badly last year (in the constant rain which murdered a lot of our plants) that I nearly put her out of her misery.

I noticed my Sally Holmes has buds, so I shall pick some when they open. She is a joy, except I put her in the wrong place, and she is now too much rose for me to move...

Just gorgeous, Olive What a display, and I love the colour. It looks very similar to Crepuscule in colour? Sally Holmes is a brute of a rose, another that wants to take over the world. But makes up for it with gorgeous roses.

Your fish tank must be the perfect environment for the fish to have babies, OHH That is very cool.

Time to get moving if I want to avoid wind, heat and rain later on.

What a beautiful rose Olive. I must look at the names of the ones where MrP is. I think they still have the labels on them.

Im off to see MrP this morning, but Im taking a detour on my way to trip out the "Toads" walk. Im sure its at least 3 kms, cos we used to love down that way.

I have achy arm muscles. I suspect it might be from the Box of Books I lifted.. Oops. Ill go through them later today. I see the Paul Holmes book is in there. I never got around to reading it, so thats on the To be read list.
I need to start reading again, used to read alot.

Then again if it stays fine I might get the back lawn done. I shaved more time off yesterday, but oddly I felt I was walking slowly lol.

Matty is leaving Breakfast.. I love Matty. I will always remember when Paul Henry talked him into jumping the fence at Government house and he promptly got told off by security. I wonder if they will replace him with another Male.

Yes, the colours are similar to Crepuscule, but the structure is different - Country Maid is, I think, a floribunda, with each stem having about 30 smallish flowers.  It's quite a compact plant, maybe a bit over a metre high, 2m wide.  Its only flaw is that it doesn't hold well when picked.  I'm not totally certain of its name as I've never been able to find another one, and there are other roses also called Country Maid which are quite different.  My husband thinks it is called Buttermaid, but I haven't been able to trace that.   Any ideas on this?   I'd love to get another one.

I haven't heard of Buttermaid or Country Maid before.  There is a NZ Rose group on FB which is a useful group to belong too and might be worth joining.  All sorts of advice and ideas and lots of rose identifying happen there too.  I might do a bit of research and see what I can find about your rose.

Thanks!   Here's a closeup photo of a truss.   I've had a bit of a look and it could also be called Cottage Maid, but there are other Cottage Maids as well.     Wairere sold it at one point but it seems to have been discontinued.

Your thoughts please ladies. I'm about to make my fruit mince and it's been years since I've made it. Instead of brandy (neither of us a fan and I'm not buying a bottle just for this) could I use the very scrummy pear cider I have in the fridge. And instead of grated apple grate pears into the mix. No biggie, am quite happy to drink the cider lol. If all else fails, I'll use the orange juice I squeezed from a tree our friend was punning and was part of the mulch he delivered.

The liquid is absorbed so it really is a matter of taste. I say, go for it.

Those would be nice with a sharp cheese. Or even, my Mum's cheese pastry, which never ever went gluggy in the mouth when eaten cold!

Wish I had the recipe...

I think the cider and pears would be a lovely addition. It's not as if you need the brandy as a preservative, because the high sugar content keeps the mixture stable.
