And I think we need urgent attention to slash...
Chris Hipkins said the slash is something that needs attention. It should have been delt with the first time it came racing down the hills and destroying bridges and properties. I think the forestry industry need to be held accountable.

We have had the plumber visit as the kitchen tap decided to spring a leak. He will be back tomorrow with a new tap.
It is such a waste of timber that could be processed for fuel if nothing better. Forestry owners should be held accountable. The problem is since we sold most of our timber to overseas conglomerates holding them accountable is a huge challenge.

Definitely agree that they must be held accountable & made to clean up their mess - & perhaps buying back at least some timber companies would help. And if nothing else then surely it even be turned into sawdust if not useful for anything else, or compressed into small bricks for fires.
morning ladies Smile A fine day here but we had thunder and lightening last evening with no rain.

I agree about the slash. We often saw it piled up on our way to see our daughter as Landcorp cleared the pine trees to make dairy farms. And everytime we saw it, we said what a bl**dy waste. Occasionally we would see someone with a trailer and chainsaw gathering firewoood, illegally, we suspected, but we cheered them on anyway.

I read this morning the second firefighter has passed away. So very sad for his family and community.

Last night we had a wee fountain in the kitchen where the tap completely fell apart. So much for the temporary fix lol. In the meantime, I am bucketing water from the laundry until the plumber arrives back this morning with a new tap. I will admit to a certain amount of swearing lol.

The lawn needs mowing. For the first time in ages, I don't have to put concrete fill in the bin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin I'll get onto that shortly before the day becomes too hot.

Happy crafting Smile
Morning all
A bit wet and windy, having a wee ,ie in this morning reading, there is a nip in the air.

Kitchen fountains  not fun KM.

Got 2 cot quilts sandwiched up and have started quilting them hope to finish them today.

Want to venture out to get buttons for a cardi I am knitting  for GD2.

Enjoy your day
Good morning.

Lovely day,  the expected rain last night must have passed on by.  We did get thunder rolling in the distance though.

Very sad about the 2nd volunteer fireman.  It's heartwarming to see that there are people out there rescuing animals/pets amidst the devastation. 1000's more have been lost  Sad

Will be home today finding things to do.

Family here for the night so we can drop them at airport early and another lot will join us for takeaways  Smile

Stay strong Popeye and do things on your terms.

Enjoy the day all.
Morning everyone

The sun is out again and very calm.

Ohh fountains in the kitchen are not a good look, but I will say water is better than Gingerbeer lol.

My lawn badly needs doing but its going to have to wait. I am barely walking, even tho Im doing exercises for my knee too.

So Sad about both the firemen but if there is an afterworld I hope they stay close to each other.

We used to live in a village called Kaiangaroa, which was a forestry village. After work hours and on the weekends the forest was open for people to go get firewood. They would cut the trees down, cut the ends off to get them the right size for the trucks. Those ends were fantastic for the coal ranges and fire. MrP and my Stepfather kept us supplied in mountains of wood. They would chop and load it out in the forest so there was no mess at home. They didn't need chainsaws

I spoke to MrP last night. To start with he was grumpy and hung up. So I did a phone check in with his Little Big brother (eldest but smallest) they are in Waverly, and our Nephew Son and his Mum who are in Edgecombe. I rang the home to pass on the messages and then he finally picked up his phone. Hes not happy never will be, cos he wants to be home.

But I think he's also scared. He knows he doesn't have a lot of time left but as I said to him he has known all his life that None of us get to live forever, so its time he got used to that. We were talking about, if there is an afterlife who he would be seeing. And that calmed him a bit as we went into fond memories.

Hoping the courier will bring Missys Breakfast Entree. Fancy Feast Puree Kisses. She has one first thing in the morning which then gives me time to shower and then get her breakfast sorted. She has her routine, one that I have to fit around lol.

Have a fab day everyone.

Thanks Roma. The Charge nurse told MrP that I was having counselling. Of which I had told him but now he believes me.
I have never understood how rehashing things helps, but it is nice to have someone listening.
The plumber arrived at 8.00am just like he said he would Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin How's that for a tradie lol. We were their second customer ever when they first started out so we have a soft spot for them. A sparkling brand new tap fitted and I no longer have to bash the tap to get it working lol. The joys of an older home. The kitchen will be replaced eventually.

Lawns are all mowed and boy, it's getting hot out there. And the birds are back in the garden Smile
morning ladies Smile Another calm day, here's hoping it stays this way in the cyclone affected areas.

We're having a quiet day home today, a chance to catch up in the garden and potter about. We have never been more grateful to have what we have.

Still thinking of our Napier online friends. We also have friends living between Taupo and Turangi who are cut off but have heard from them and know they are OK.

Happy crafting Smile

Fine day yay

Didn't get quilts finished yesterday as DS , DIL & DGD2 visited after lunch so only had 40 mins to doodle with thread. It probably be Monday before I get a chance to attach binding.

House stuff this morning got to remove the little hand smears off the range slider so that means I get to clean all windows   Sad  babysitting this afternoon so thats the day gone.

Enjoy your day
Good morning.

Nice and sunny with an early start getting the wee family to the airport.

Can enjoy my cuppa now we've hauled out the heavy lounge rug dear feline chucked over, why is that the default place with all my hard floor area ... joys of pets Sick

Nothing particular planned,  a bit more photo gathering and prepare some garden for more vege planting.

Very mindful thinking of the devastated areas in whatever we do and also thankful for what we have.

Enjoy the day all.
Good Morning everyone

Sunny and cool this morning.

I was talking to a friend in Taranaki yesterday who made the Mistake of telling me she was "over" all the cyclone Stuff.. I told her off quite simply by saying, "Yeah and I bet the people living through it are too." You have the option of turning the TV off they dont.

I got the lawn done that I wanted done. Took me 2 hours to do a bit that would have once taken 30 minutes. Thankfully I could lean on the house and fence to be steady for a lot of it. Used the blower vac to blow the grass from the walls and fence , so I can weedspray those later . I was amazed at how much lose grass and leaves etc that were covering the drainage thing, so I've unblocked that. Water could still get down it, but its better now.

Off to see MrP this morning. He's in a lot of pain now , but won't ask them for painkillers.. Thinks he has to be tough. I said the only one that is hurting is yourself. So I called them and asked for something stronger. I'll have a word with the Charge nurse and they can get the Dr to prescribe something.

Have a fab day everyone
I have been bad.

I lost my temper with an idiot neighbour who might have started off by trying to be funny but misjudged my level of tolerance, and now she knows exactly what I think of her. I have never been very good at dealing with insult and lack of respect, my father raised me to stand up for myself and have clear boundaries, and it does get me into trouble on occasion, especially when dealing with fools and idiots.

Never mind, the sun is out and I can potter in the garden till equilibrium is regained!
Im sure she deserved it OHH.. one can only stand soo much of other peoples crap.

Might make the world of difference for someone to stand up to her.

And your Father was right.. Just as MrP and his sister and brother in law were. They taught me to stand up for myself and I have a shelf in my head that I never visit. Once people are put on that shelf. They stay and dont get second chances. And I dont think of them.

MrP was in an amiable mood this morning. Managed to find a ham bone for him, but he said to bring it home and add it to the soup pot. So its going to be a big pot of meaty ham soup.

Its clouded over so the spraying will have to wait.. and if Im honest my bones hurt too much to care lol.
I think we'd all like to be 'over' the cyclone & the resulting damage, but just as with other disasters it takes time & when there are still people missing then we need updates.

That's the thing about getting older Hunni, we tend to suffer fools far less gladly - let it be a lesson to her.

Indeed Popeye - those people no longer exist.

Its warm & sunny here today & I really should be in the garden but sod it, too tired today so it can wait.
We spotted a paper wasp nest building project going on in the hollow square metal support of the roof of the bloodyuseless scooter garage no one uses. So a couple of us are having great fun with the hose when we are in the mood, subjecting those innocents to their very own cyclone. Not really putting them off much, but they do not like the cascade effect lol...

Bit too high to deal to with the flea powder trick so we'll have to get a Man in, but meantime they are getting karma from us monarch butterfly lovers...
morning ladies Smile Slightly overcast here this morning but it is calm so I will hopefully be able to spray the weeds along the main road.

I remember years ago when our kids were little a paper wasp nest was being built on a small tree branch in the garden. I cut the branch off near the nest at night when the wasps were tucked into their little wasp beds, popped it into a freezer bag and put it in the freezer for a few days to kill the wasps. Our son took it to school for the class nature table Big Grin Big Grin I didn't know flea powder killed them but it's worth remembering, thanks OHH Smile

As I get older, I find I'm less tolerant of less tolerant people and tend to walk away from them also. I choose friends of quality, not quantity.

Next weekend we are (I'm using the royal 'we' here lol) helping at a garden working bee for a family friend. She is slowly loosing her battle with breast cancer and 'doing' her garden is one way we can help lower the stress levels. Her daughter is also coming to help along with two of my sisters-in-law. She has been a fabulous friend to our family especially with MrK's younger sister dying. It's nice to be able to repay some of her kindness.

Our son sent a text to say he has had a promotion at work, he's been working less than 12 months for the power company, so we are pretty chuffed. It puts him in charge of 30 people and sole charge when he works Saturdays. MrK asked him when was he taking over the company lol. His reply, soon dad, soon! lol.

The first butterfly for the quilt has been finished and I'm halfway through the second one. I saw some lovely fabric for it at Spotlight, but I'll keep looking around.

Better get cracking before the wind and traffic crank up.

Happy crafting Smile
Good morning.

We have some morning cloud, but I see it is to clear, hopefully another sunny day like yesterday.

We had a never ending 'problem' with paper wasp nests when we were rural living.  Several of them in the garden and I found out about them with a nasty sting as I weeded. They were dealt to at dusk when the wasps were "home" with a good, long blast of flyspray, quite a few from the end of a long ladder under the eaves!

Will take the day as it comes,  hopefully ending with some cross stitch  ... it's been a few days.

Working bees are a nice way to help others out,  especially with plenty of hands on deck.

Enjoy the day all.
Morning everyone

A very calm day here too, I suspect it might get a tad warm today.

I have 2 Wasp residences. One on a yukka out the front and one in the corner of the back patio... So if you "deal" with them at night time do they not come out and bother you? I've always been scared to do that... I was impressed in one of last years abodes it was 3 stories. I have taps very close to both so could give them a cyclone or two as well.

I didnt spray yesterday the clouds came in and Im sure I smelt the rain. But Ive decided to do the rubbish today, which means I have to go buy bags cos some silly tart forgot to yesterday. And since we had our recycling messed up with Gabrielle I need to re-invent myself as a Compactor. I usually only put my wheelie bin out once a month and it was already pretty full. But if I have to wait another week like I suspect I might I will have to get MrP's massive hammer thing and make some room.

He was ok yesterday, I suspect the pain meds were on board cos he was very relaxed and happy.. Got him to lay his hand on my knee. he has always had healing hands.

Its time to go through my linen. I have a Massive amount, and its time for a cull. too thin can go somewhere for rags, and the Vets I think take towels. Anything good enough can go to the oppy. I still haven't used my new ones yet.

Was good yesterday I was talking to both my brothers online.. The twin messaged the older one cos he was worried about me, cos I was awol from FB for 2 days lol.

I think having a working bee is a lovely idea Kiwimade. It will bring emense joy and will be fun too.

HAve a fab day everyone
