It was warm all night here too but only a couple of showers rain wise.
We are still conserving water so my windows will have to wait but there is a lot of dust around due to the dry silt and the windows are very dirty.
About a week before the cyclone my hot water tank blew the thermostat yet again. Since they put chlorine in our water there has been a lot of problems with hot water cylinders. Anyway I decided to go with infinity gas as I know quite a few people with it and they all like it.
With the cyclone etc it’s taken a bit longer to get installed but yesterday was the day and oh how good to have a lovely hot shower after 6 weeks with no hot water and just bucket washes.
Must confess I didn’t think of water conservation whilst enjoying my shower
Now I also have a lovely biggish cupboard in the corner of the kitchen where the cylinder used to be so am planning how best to set it up. Today I will paint it and put down some flooring. Fortunately I have some left from when the kitchen was redone a few years ago. Then decide on shelving.

I cheat these days with the windows. I have a spray bottle with water and vinegar and my Karcher window vac. That was truly one of my best investments.
Morning everyone
A warm night here too. But I couldn't get up to turn the fan on. As I said on Thursday I jarred my knee as I stepped into the elevator, its progressively got worse. To the point that I have a sore back from lying in the only position I could get my knee comfortable.. The one blessing of all the pain meds is my Back hasn't been a bother until now.
So I guess it will be another sitting not doing much day.
The fence is finished. I thought they were putting a nice top on it, but it must have just been a tool they were using to keep the height level. But from my chair I can only see their roof. And its only cos the trees are gone that I cant see too much in when standing at the kitchen bench too.
Not that I run around naked or anything but I do like my Privacy. We have lived in a couple of houses on corners with footpaths and I hate the Bowl feeling.
Venetian I wouldnt have thought about the water either. When we were travelling around in our motor home we had to conserve water, and for some reason it was always me in the shower when the tank emptied. I always had the first shower when we landed somewhere with water access..
Im a bit down today.. I just want to ring and yell at MrP.. but Im sticking to what he wanted.

Quiet day yesterday due to weather. I finished making the clutch purse for quilting friend, to day I am thinking I will cut out a merino all in one for DGD2 she is very petite.
onto last sleeve for DGD1 jersey - grows quicker in DK compared to my usually 4 ply. Staying away from Skeinz big sale did peek this morning and the wool I am interested in is $0.70 cheaper so not a big saving on a garment.
DH out k9 walkiing while I did the house stuff so after a cuppa together I need to go get petrol and lettuce for our salad tonight.

Brought quite a bit of their Southlander post cyclone when it was on sale and they were also giving 50% to cyclone relief but that is nearly finished as I’ve been knitting jerseys and vests for the kids who lost everything. Now I have a request for warm clothes for a 6 year old girl and all I have done already are rather farm boy looking and not the right size so looks like I’ll have to succumb and go after all and my stash is rather limited again so good excuse.
It can wait until Monday though.

What a beautiful misty start to the day we have this morning.
I also saw the Skeinz sale AND to make matters worse, they dared to advertise it on the TV last evening!
It will be a perfect morning to work under the bedroom windows before the day becomes too hot. It's only a small garden but hopefully I can tidy it up and bring it in line with the other gardens.

We had a gardening team here yesterday revamping the lawn strip between fence and drive into a mulched bed with lomandra and a variegated 'thing' at regular intervals, and redoing a corner bed that sheltered a garden seat into a similar version. Boy they were hard workers and really respectful of us couple of old gardeners. Lovely people... Then they came and asked us what we thought of the finished work and so we made the right noises and congratulated them, and off they went. Never to return I suspect, or at least not for a few years. Maintenance not being a strongpoint...
So we got our evening glass of wine and sat in the courtyard and talked about how we could fix the corporate abomination they have left us with, lol, but we did agree - the landlord's project manager will love it. After all it goes so well with all the new dull grey paintwork. Recommended by the Resene Colour Consultant. Heavy sighs all round.
I guess we just need darker sunglasses...

Looks like it will be a stunner of a day. Is a little cooler for sure. Time to get a blanket out for my chair at night time.
I got annoyed with myself yesterday sitting there doing nothing.. So I will make myself do stuff today. nothing too exciting, Ill fill the rubbish bags, I think I have 2. Will compact the boxes I seem to be collecting. And if it stays fine I might even whip around some of the lawn.
Watching Susan Coleman at the mo.. She would be an awesome person to have a holiday with. You would certainly have fun and laugh a lot.
Im not very good at spontaneous stuff and seemed to have forgotten how to have fun and just do stuff and not worry about how much it costs.
When my grandparents lived in council flats in Northcoate many years ago OHH they were painted a very pale greeny blue. Totally odd now I think of it. They were two storied too but when thinking about it, their toilet must have been on the ground floor cos I dont ever remember going up the stairs lol My grandfather had vege gardens around the outside walls. I dont recall any flowers lol To this day I dont remember how we got there cos we didn't have a car until 1978, 4 years after my father died.

Paint something colourful Hunni - flowers or something & attach to heavy-ish cardboard & attach to the door of hideous grey, or perhaps a rainbow, that'd cause some comments no doubt.
I strongly suspect the reason that the hideous grey was chosen by the alleged expert consultant is due to ghastly grey going very slowly out of favour, to be replaced by boring beige, & they were wanting rid of grey.
Its been a day of interruptions so far; first an unexpected phone call then an unexpected visit from sweetie darling no. 2 & then another unexpected phone call, so haven't achieved much apart from walk & a bit of hedge pruning.
I am replacing the Scottish lace door curtain (the door has those ancient bubble glass panels) with a double length of magenta kimono fabric. Should go well with the gruesome gray.
'Oh but the Resene people are experts"' we were told. Uh huh, and four years of fine arts degree means nothing, lol, because we're 'old' and 'know nothing'...
We did have fun this evening though. Three of us have sort of chopped down a rather tatty avocado tree, sort of because the trunk kind of defeated us. It was the second glass of wine...
That and egging each other on.
Us old people have to grab our fun where we can find it!!

Another lovely auyum day on the cards.
lol OHH. I love the 'sort of' chopped down the tree. I can just imagine you all after a few wines deciding the tree had to go. And the magenta sari sounds gorgeous and will add a much needed splash of colour to the door.
We seemed to have a 'visitor' day yesterday with my friend calling in to ask if I could hem a pair of trousers for her granddaughter. Her machine had been serviced but someone in the house moved it (*gasp*) and may have dropped it so it no longer works. Of course, no one is admitting to this. Our nieghbour called in twice lol to tell is they have a new dog, a little French Bulldog. And then to drop off some fresh snapper they had just caught a few hours previously. It made for a very tasty dinner that's for sure.
Not a lot was done to the 'garden' under the windows so I'm heading out there shortly to get it done. I've had an idea how to anchor the air plants and stop them from blowing all over the lawn in the wind. But I'll need MrK's help
And then they can go with the cacti plants I'll pot up to go where I am working now.
I've been inspired to try stumpwork again with my embroidery. I saw an awesome piece in the embroidery FB group I belong too and want to have another go at it. I won't copy her piece (as much as I am tempted lol) and will find something of my own. But the construction principals are pretty much the same. I might have a tutu with a small design I have in an embroidery book first to get 'back in the groove'.

Had a great day yesterday at sewing group we group of sewists from Wellington, Manawatu and Hawkes Bay we meet in Palmerston North every month. Yesterday was a charity sew day, we were very productive.
Currently I am parked outside dentist waiting for DH to have his broken front tooth repaired.
I have meeting this afternoon so my day is full got to do a bit of reading with my morni g coffee later this morning

A tad cooler start, but once Madam curled up in my hands I seem to have missed the happenings between the 7 and 8 oclock news items lol.
I went out to do a little bit of lawn yesterday.. and yep its all done, Im super creaky but it can rain all it likes now.
Put the two very heavy bags of rubbish in the car and took them down to the road. Went to NW for some Pepsi, second time this week and they still didn't have any. Had plenty of what was on special starting today tho. Ill cross my fingers and hope to get some tomorrow.. Its my Coffee.
Will ring the home and get a quick update on MrP. He still hasn't asked for me to ring. So Ill just get updates until he does.
Wont get much done today as Im sore but thats ok with me.

Lovely day out there after an equally nice weekend, thank goodness with the extras staying. Back to normal today with 3 gc to supervise.
We enjoyed a day of reminiscing for my mother's Memorial, the Waikato turned on the sun for us after rain the night before. So good to catch up with the cousins we had so much to do with as kids, all of us older and mostly wiser!
Catch up day today with extra laundry and tidying up.
It sounds as if you enjoy a great "village" life OHH with lots of fun times.
I'll have to google stump embroidery later KM ... it sounds intriguing!

The little nib edging under the windows has been dug out. MrK rolled his eyes and said, you just can't help yourself, can you lol. There is a small (compared to other piles I've had) pile of the broken concrete ready to be binned over time. It won't take long. Now I need to dig out the yukka that was planted and then dig some of the soil out to lower the garden for the stones. But that's for another day. Already it looks a lot better and will improve even more once I put more stones.

I’ve no idea why the “experts” like gray so much. Brother moved into a new housing development and everything is dull gray. They do have a bright yellow door so the previous owner must have wanted a bit of colour otherwise I think it is all rather depressing.
Yesterday Watties put on a family day in the park around the corner with bouncy castles etc for the kids and a huge sausage BBQ. I had unexpected visitors so couldn’t wander over until about finishing time thinking it would have been all gone but no there were still heaps of sausages so I tried them and they were really yummy.
I asked one of the workers where they had got them and they were made especially for Watties by a butcher in Hamilton and contained baked beans and tomato sauce along with the meat. They were nice and meaty and you couldn’t tell there were baked beans in them. He then gave me a container full to bring home so I have several meals in the freezer.
Off to get ideas for shelves in my ex hot water cupboard and see what specials Skeinz have and hopefully find something for a 6 yr olds cardy.
Then some baking as I want to make an apple shortcake for tomorrow’s morning tea as both the ladies rostered on baking have covid. If the oven is on I may as well as throw in a batch of biscuits as well to start this week’s baking.

There are a lot of good things about our little village, but the reality is we - a small group of us - have made our own fun. Most of the neighbours keep to themselves, and a couple are seriously bad news, so we try to avoid them. One in particular is the most arrogant entitled old man, a misogynistic really right wing rabbit hole diver SA import who used his church connections to get a flat. He runs a business from there, has some very dubious and rather scary rumours floating about his past history, and has influence with the corporate landlords so manages to get special treatment with rules and suchlike. He has caused endless dramas in the village and gets away with it everytime.
Then we have a Russian lady with a similar attitude but she, being female, gets short shrift from management, not that it stops her, we think it is probably a mental health issue with her. Might well be with the old man too, but for some reason my intuition screams warnings when he is in my vicinity. Something not good there I think...
The difference in the way these two get treated has become quite noticeable, to the extent if anyone wants anything done the suggestion is to get one of the men to call it in, because more attention is paid to them than us boring old ladies, lol.
But the fun stuff does outweigh the bad that's for sure. We have a small but safe, affordable (rent is 30% of gross income) roof over our heads, and if we play the game it is secure for life. That is a huge blessing for those of us fortunate enough to be here, particularly when you see the challenges other people face with terrible or no homes at all.
I just wish more subsidised safe homes were available, because the need is very definitely out there. And the big life lesson I learnt, is that needing one of these homes is simply a matter of life events and bad luck. It can happen to any of us...
But, being a control freak with ideas above my station, I do wish they were a bit pickier about who gets to be my neighbour, lol. No doubt some feel that way about this witch in number 12 too!

I've not heard much about Kiwi Saffa's but what I have heard tends to be about their racism; I wish NZ checked people for racism if they want to come & live here. At the very least anyone coming to live here should be warned that its a bad place to be racist because we've intermarried so much, that you can't tell from looking at us who has Maori ancestry.

There are "those" in the first rest home that get preferential treatment. But the nick names suit them.. there's a bacon burger and there's a Major Bumble.. who thinks He won World War two all on his own.. truth be known he probably only served at home. they will get their just desserts in their next life, preferably something easy to swat with a fly swat.
I admit to not having done much today, but I did sit on my bed and go through my rings.. I have a thing about rings and love mine.. but with losing the weight they are all turning around.. So I now have what was my skinny set with a fourth one on my wedding finger, yes they are all spinning but they are my fave. All brought by me by going without other things, cos I wanted them. And my lovely oval Bola hat one is now residing on my middle finger of my right hand. it used to be too tight for my ring finger. and my Second wedding ring is on the ring finger on the right.. I wish there was some magic way to stop them turning around.

oops the silly mare in this house forgot to go get her pills today so the morning ones will be a little late.. Mind you i wasnt really able to walk around today anyway.
I had to have my stack cut off and made bigger when my fingers became sausages with my pregnancy, and I have never been sufficiently spendy to get them put back. They are on my middle finger now, and still turn on themselves every day, slowly wearing against each other. I doubt I'll get them done now, the kid will take them when and if she comes to visit, and she's filthy rich so she can do it, lol...
Funny thing, my engagement ring was an antique when we bought it in 1978, it cost exactly $100. I was in an antique jewelry shop about ten years ago and the jeweler valued it at around $2000. Nice profit, except I could never sell it! I remember my Mum examining it with an eagle eye, and telling me it was a 'dress ring'... And yes, I was very miffed, I think she was secretly jealous of my 6ft4 bearded Pom, who she very soon learned to adore.
