Simple; we're growing old. Therefore, we're growing generally, not just old.
Growing taller, so socks and gardens are further away.
Growing stronger; remember what a struggle it was to carry home the shopping if mum had sent you down to the shops with 15/-7d to pay for it? (($1.58))  Now you can casually wander out of the butcher's shop carrying $150.99 of meat easily in one hand.
Stronger appetite.  Could you, as a 10 year old, visualise single-handedly eating a pie that cost well (or badly) over 2 Pounds? Then drinking three Pounds worth of coffee?
If you're concerned that weeding is tiring, consider that you're on one end of the weed, pulling. On the other end there's the entire earth!
Better memory. Honestly, can you recall your memory ever being better? That's not even making allowance for the fact that there's a lot more history to remember.
And if you're still concerned about getting older, consider that to the children of today, right now is going to be their good old days.

Whoa, congrats! Another nerd... I graduated in 2016 from my last foray into higher education. Challenging, stressful, and looking back - one of the best things I ever did.

I'm tempted to go back. Seriously...
morning ladies Smile I'm loving these fine winter days Heart

lol OHH, I loved it too. It had its challenging moments that's for sure, but overall, I loved being in the classroom.

Today I'm starting to dig out the overgrown shrubs along our fenceline and will leave the bigger ones for our friend who has a grounds/gardening business to attack. We plan to espalier camellias along the fence Smile Much easier to maintain and they look very pretty when flowering. We'll probably need two more camellias which isn't too bad. My hydrangeas along the main road are looking quite sad Sad But I'll keep persevering with them.

This afternoon I may even be able to do a bit more work on the thrush. I haven't had a needle in my hands for a few days now and I suspect it's because my glasses aren't quite up to scratch now. Roll on the new ones!

The Furry One is out of bed and bashing my leg with his tug rope. This well trained owner will obediently start a tug-of-war game with him Heart

Morning everyone

Really chilly this morning.. Wrapped up like an eskimo lol.

I sprayed all the edges yesterday, glad that's done. Have been waiting for the finer weather to get it done. Looks like the weekend might be good too. Might get the front of the lawn done at least.

Off for visiting this morning. Haven't heard if Irene is home or not. And I dont like to text incase something has happened. Hope to talk with the head nurse about Bobbie again hopefully.

Have a fab day everyone
Nope, not getting out of bed till it warms up a bit more no matter how bright it is out there! And the cat agrees.

So, if anyone is making tea, another cup would be very welcome...
MrK heard a squeal outside, turned around to see the Furry One killing a rat. What a clever boy he is Heart Not too shabby for a 12 year old dog. The Furry One has been onto the trail of the rat for quite a while and he's finally caught it. That's one down, we know there is another as we saw two together.
Decided to make gingerbread as none left in freezer. Halfway through I remembered why I so seldom make it - finicky, fiddly recipe. And some has to be melted before being added so put butter, golden syrup & brown sugar in microwave to do that before adding to the rest of it & set about looking for my one & only stirrer which can safely go in the microwave.
Ended up scouring the entire kitchen, running about like a headless chook but no sign of the damn thing.
And then the microwave pinged.

Would anyone care to take a wild guess as to what I found in the bowl with the melted stuff...?! Smile

Possibly going slightly doolally...
Wow, KM he must have acted quickly to get it ... but then JR's are expert vermin exterminators!

Gorgeous day again ... making the most of being outside before more forecast rain.

Birthday takeaways last night for middle child (son) ... we could do with the table being a metre longer with the kids growing now ... one family not even here!

Over the big hill tomorrow for family visit.  Baking done to take over.

Lunch time.
That photo of the apples was across the road from my friends who decided life wasn’t worth living anymore - it was taken in the weeks after the cyclone and unfortunately they attracted hundreds of rats - the Furry one would have thought he was in heaven
We had a bittersweet moment yesterday - sometimes we just so wish the old boy was here - when we were living in Bathurst we went across to Orange I wanted some bunny wool - the shop wasn’t open so we wandered along the street - the Archibald prize winners a top Ozzie art competition were on show - the winner really took the old boys fancy because it had so much detail and a little dog - he wasn’t into art would be more likely to be buying running shoes - anyway as we left there was a little stall selling prints - so over he wanders and comes back with one tucked under his arm - $37 - when we got home I unrolled it and saw it was a numbered print and congratulated him on his buy - a bit later one I heard him having a bit of a giggle with my granddaughter and I could tell she had a secret - it was still in the times of zip zapping your credit card and when he looked it was $337 .I carried on quite a bit .When we shifted back home one carton went missing and the print was in that carton - I don’t think we even claimed on the insurance for it .In the meantime the artist has become very well known - saw something online about an up coming auction so thought maybe I could replace it - the price is on the photo! The kids and I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry he would have completely disregarded the fact we lost it but congratulated himself on his good taste

Well done Junior KM.. your a good boy..

Ohh Lilith, was it ok? I learnt very quickly not to put my proper rubber scrapers in the Dishwasher, they ruin them. From memory they are Fredron brand, red handle cream rubber, They are the best. Only place I have found them is mitre10. but I Have 3. I dont like silicon ones.

Bobbie was in the same clothes again. But I managed a quick talk to Colleen about Bobbie and asked if she changed at all. Apparently she was offered some clothes but wouldn't take them. So Im going to use her birthday as a reason to give her some clothes. I think she would like "pretty" clothes. She was an office worker, but also loved going to dances etc. So Something a bit partyish might interest her.

The Activities co-ordinater where MrP is has leant me a book about people with Dementia and how to help distract them, and get them interested in doing things.. And she said her best tip is to Get Bobbie into thinking that she is Helping me.. So even tho Bobbie doesn't do crafts, Im going to get a couple of photo frames and ask Bobbie to help me Decorate them. One for MrP for his Birthday and one for me. And Ill put the lovely photo of them taken last summer.. Then Ill see if I can take Bobbie to see MrP for his birthday and then give her the other one for herself. With a note saying that eventually it will come to me.

She was standing in the dining room this morning with the sun on her back. I wish I had taken a photo. I have told her that a nice man will come and see her. And I said that he visits MrP too, and that MrP likes him. And this man just likes to check in on people who dont get many visitors. And telling her that MrP likes him, was a good thing and she said she will talk to him.. He's the mental health man.

MrP and the boys were getting their covid boosters and Flu shots this morning. Poor Arthur was scared.. So I went to him and said that it was Ok. MrP had just had his and that He should have the same. Held his hand and he calmed down and let them do it. His mum was due in the but nurses arrived earlier than planned.

Its a stunning Day here, I should be attending to the lawn but tomorrow will do.
Yep it was OK Popeye. I'll have to be more careful in future.

That sounds a good way to get Bobbie more involved, if she's helping.
morning ladies Smile The sun's out but it is a bit cloudy, I suspect the rain isn't that far away.

Good idea to have Bobby involved with things, popeye.

Yesterday I dug out the smaller shrubs and have left the big (huge) ones for our friend to do. Just waiting for him to call round and give us a quote.

Today I plan to clean the whitework around the windows as it's been a while since it was last done.

Happy crafting Smile
Morning everyone

Another chilly start but the sun is up and beautiful.

Decided to have a slow start lol

May do some lawn later but I could leave it another week. But then I dont know what the weather will be like lol.

Going to sit and read this book today. And make notes, since its one of the Workers own books Ill get it back to her as soon as possible.

Have a fab day everyone
I have just finished Pa Salt - will say no more exact if you are on a waiting list at the library don’t take your name off the list
Now better get cracking
I am still screaming through the long list of Lisa Gardner novels. The woman is a fabulous crime writer, and I really like her good guys...
I read the book I was loaned.

Alot of good ideas in it. But nothing that I know Bobbie would "normally" do. But Ill try some.

Put rice in the crockpot, and ended up having a snooze this afternoon. Which is rare for me.

Woke up with the desire to crochet another blanket. In red and White. But in rounds like I have done in so many other colours. Usually a dark and lighter shade and then a cream or white... But you dont really get a Light Red. And I dont like the sound of a wine red and a scarlet red. Might end up just doing it in red and white, since I wont have to buy any yarn. And this one will get used lol.

Do you need to read them in any particular order Hunni
Did you open the link of my old boys art purchase I put up the other day - thought it would appeal to you and Lilith
morning ladies Smile And the rain came back...

If I remember rightly, we've read some of Lisa Gardner's books and they are very good. I'm currently reading Nora Roberts 'Nightwork'. I like her books and also the books she writes under JD Rob.

I loved the print your husband bought, Jan. What a shame it was lost when you moved. But OMG the price of it today! I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry.

My sewing machine is running smoothly, it was the best money I've spent (besides for the new glasses lol) in a very long time. MrK asked how do I know when to service it, I replied when I'm constantly swearing at it Tongue

Last night we watched Gerad Butler's new rip snorter movie 'Plane'. We loved it but we love a good shootout movie anyway lol. He does a terrible Scottish accent and halfway through the movie he flagged the accent all together lol.

Today I'll attempt to do the whitework around the windows again. By the time we had our covid booster jabs and were home yesterday, I really couldn't be bothered to do them.

Happy crafting Smile

I think Gerard Butler might be sorry to hear that he does a terrible Scottish accent! He's a Scottish actor who comes from Paisley, where my father comes from. Maybe he's been in Hollywood too long? Smile
